During a storm last December, 341.4mm was recorded in Cumbria over 24 hours. A respectable total indeed. What's the UK record? That's is the record, measured from 1800-1800. Monthly record was in north-west Wales, 1396.4 mm in December 2015.

New England's worst recorded hurricane, a hurricane in 1635 was stronger but New England was barely settled then.

Crazy to say this but there’s a real chance Southern California could get hit by a tropical system in the next two weeks.

The 06z GFS has two storms surviving into the Southwestern United States over the next 10 days. The first is cureently depicted as making landfal as a category 1 storm just south of san diego and bringing torrential rain and sustained winds up to 60mph into SW Arizona. The second is shown making landfall in Baja California and plowing into AZ and retaining tropical storm status with sustained winds up to 50mph and heavy rain in Tucson. Highly unlikely either of these events will happen but it’s worth keeping an eye on.
