Why don't we have three ears? With only two ears we cannot know if a noise is coming from up or down, or from the front or back, without movibg our heads. Strange of nature imo.

Where would the third ear go? Back of the neck? Up the ass?

Where would the third ear go? Back of the neck? Up the ass? Idk, but you can't triangulate a position without three ears.

With only two ears we cannot know if a noise is coming from up or down, or from the front or back, without moving our heads. Strange of nature imo. But we can. Because when we hear a sound we move our heads. Sure, sounds coming from behind sound more muffled than when coming from the front, but what about an inherently muffled sound coming from the front. Maybe it rarely matters since you're rarely unable to move your head I guess.

We can tell without moving the head, though moving it helps to pinpoint the location. The shape of the ears and the head and how they attenuate different frequencies coming from different directions plays into it. Don't tell me you can't tell if someone is shouting your name from directly behind you. You won't have time to turn your head but you'll know.

Humans have historically have little to fear from above, so that's why there's little need for a third ear.
