No snow, just endless drizzle, worsening temps, cloudy almost every day and the amount of daylight with no snow reflection is like a bad joke, especially in November and December. Apart from some nicely-coloured trees in October it's just terrible, and to make matters worse autumn usually sweeps in to ruin December and sometimes also January as well, being just a fraction too warm for snow to stay on the ground when winds from Scotland hit. In addition, the wind chill is already strong in October, not to mention November. It always tends to blow at its worst by then and makes physical outdoor activity really uncomfortable. Even today, an otherwise comfortable day is getting ruined by random high winds.
Winter here is C when it shows up and E when it doesn't - it's a lot better than the failed endless temps between 2-7°C showcased by 20 October-30 November in either case. For nine months of the year I can handle this climate well, but this autumn thing between early October and late December is absolutely unbearable.
It's like being stuck in the waiting room for months on end with nothing happening.
I'd much rather have a sharp fall of temperatures between September coming from a warmer summer and November (say 20/12/5) and then it stabilizing for three months just below freezing than this 17/10/5 avg high decline.
In Sweden, the ideal thing would be to spend the autumn down south where the temps are higher and then winter slightly north of Stockholm. Nyköping is a bit of the worst of both worlds in that regard. It freezes too quick due to the drop of sun strength, but is too maritime for the winter to truly take hold in December.

B. Doomy and gloomy like autumn should be but too long. By mid-November it should be winter. Right now November is a filler month where the temperature stays at 1°C with sideways drizzle in your face each and every day. Days are almost as short as December but with no snow to lighten things up.

A–; tis' the time when the fierce southerly winds begin to dominate and steer much of the weather likewise, thus resulting in lovely cold rain (yes, I love that sort of weather), not to mention some good snowfalls as well. Spectacular Autumnal colours about the poplar trees, too!
Disadvantageous, however, is the seldom occurance of some endlessly sunny ~20° C rubbish here and there; only in early Autumn, much to my fortune. We don't get the exciting 30° C days of lower elevations, so I'd rather it be ~10° C with squally rain instead of ~20° C and sunny, calm.

A-
September is basically still summer, and the monsoon usually ends before the end of the month. I'm never ready for summer to end in September, so this is a good thing for me
October my favorite month of the year temp wise, we go from 35.6°C/22.8°C on the 1st to 28.3°C/15.6°C on Halloween, one of our sunniest months of the year, and usually dry
November, warmth holds on until Thanksgiving most years, on 11/25 normals are still 22.2°C/10.6°C. Fairly sunny, and winter rains usually hold off until after Thanksgiving

C-. Autumn features the most rapid period of temperature change of the year here. September, like firebird1988 said, is basically still summer here averaging 94.5/68.6 and also normally includes the end of the monsoon. October features a rapid decline in average temperatures going from 91/64 on 10/1 to 78/51 on 10/31. Unlike this year most Octobers are pretty dry and winter storms don't really start impacting the area until around thanksgiving. Snow is possible in November in Tucson (6.4" fell on 11/14/1958) but it's extremely rare. By the time meteorological fall ends temperatures average 68/39.

B+
Generally warm and sunny, all the dickhead bug and snake infestation is more or less gone, but still general all-round pleasant weather. Good time to get out and about.

B-, still comfortable, and more interesting than spring. Would like September to be warmer though.

C. September can be nice and warm and summer-like and is usually a pretty dry month. October has some nice days but also gets lots of cold rain but is usually too early for snow. November is meh, sometimes it can be a pretty much ideal month but sometimes it can also be drizzly, stable crap.

F+, gay a fuck. Essentially an extension of summer for September and first two-thirds of October, and even after that there is still a threat for significant warmth and humidity. The only semblance of "autumn-like" weather is when we get a strong cold front in late October and November like we can get from time to time. The "+" is for the major possibility of a tropical system coming through, keeping things interesting. Otherwise, this shit is for the birds....
I will say, November feels pleasant most of the time though compared to previous months. Very benign sun angle, nights start cooling off decently, etc. That's when we get an average November that is. November the last few years has been warm, humid crap.

September is alright and at least Autumn is fairly mild and can stay warm into October, but it’s far below my ideal. I guess I should rate it higher because there is far worse in Canada, Scandinavia, Russia etc

It's my favorite season of the year. Generally the weather is comfortable, sometimes too rainy but not as rainy or muddy as spring. I like the fall colors, the first few cool days of the year, and the first snow. The only bad times are extended wet periods or when it drags on too long and winter starts out mild and snowless.

C-/D+.
March is a good month, and we have had a good run of them recently, so it gets a B. April is ok, a decent amount of variation and it still has some heat left so it gets a C. But then, May happens. Somehow the second cloudiest and second driest month of late, with mostly nothing temperatures and barely any variation. It gets an E from me. That should average out to C-/D+?

May is a piece of shit in Melbourne. It's like on April 30 someone flicks a switch. Cloudy as fuck, murky cold, no chance of storms, and the end of 20C+ days.
