Easily much more like London.
I have to say, Istanbul's summers are quite a bit more benign than I originally thought.

Istanbul easily. Both summers and winters there are closer to London than NYC's.

Certainly Istanbul. NYC is much more extreme in comparison. I'm sure in a really cold winter, London can get similar temperatures as NYC, but London will never ever be able to have a typical NYC July or August.
I thought Istanbul was much more extreme than it is tbh. It's a bit tame year round.

Looks like nobody voted for NYC except me. I would like to hear an opinion from this one, how about: The climate of ReykjavÃk is more similar to New York City or Québec(City)?
By the way, the actual averages of July in Istanbul are more like 30/22 from the past three decades.

Indeed, NYC's standard deviation towards the cold side is probably a lot higher than London, and if you head inland it gets even more extreme. For example, Nashville located 5 degrees further south has a colder average annual min than NYC. |

For me, London, UK is closer to Istanbul, Turkey than New York City, USA in climate terms, especially the northern part, which also has an oceanic climate under the Köppen Climate Classification.

The dreary & damp winters with low sunshine hours and the odd snowfall makes London more like Istanbul's. The summers are also on the dry side, like Istanbul's (whereas NYC has stormy summers).
