Istanbul is very similar to London in winter, but summer isn't so clear cut.

How is this even a question? Istanbul is closer in terms of precipitation, sunshine, and temperatures are almost identical except in summer where it's warmer in Istanbul, whereas NYC has similar temperatures in November and late-March to early-April.

Climates like Istanbul, Bordeaux, Bilbao, Samsun and Trabzon are essentially London turned up a bit and with some dry-summer and wet-winter tendencies.
New York City on the other hand is a classic East Coast climate of a greater landmass with strong seasonal differences. Due to Istanbul's lower seasonal range, the answer is rather obvious.

I'd say that London's summer weather and sky conditions woupd be more like NYC than Istanbul, but the winters in London and Istanbul are almost identical. Or maybe you think I should've made this thread Bergen vs Istanbul (which Istanbul would have won).

Definitely Istanbul. Although the rain pattern in London doesn’t vary so much apart from autumn which has more, in summer we are prone to drought and any rain falls in short showers generally. I couldn’t see NYC going three months without much rain like we did this year and have done on past occasions.

London is a colder, cloudier Istanbul. In your opening comment you seemed to be under the impression that this poll would be close

Istanbul is very similar to London in winter, but summer isn't so clear cut. Istanbul has slightly cooler summers, so closer to London. Drier than London, but NYC is wetter than London in the summer so London is about halfway. Istanbul isn't similar to London at all, but it's slightly closer to London than NYC

Partly cloudy vs blue dome skies every day. Don't think anyone's ever gone to either city in July and though to themselves, "this reminds me of London". At least Istanbul is actually somewhat comparable with London for 3 months of the year.

Is London's climate more like NYC or Göle?

Is London's climate more like NYC or Göle? Göle is the coldest city in Turkey. Göle is high elevation. Adhran is not as cold as Göle. This is because Göle is higher in elevation. My stats prove Göle is the coldest town in Turkey. It is colder than Vostok. Göle Göle Göle

I must say, I thought for sure it would be NYC - never looked at Istanbuls climatic averages; but its certainly closer to London than NYC is.

Istanbul has a lot of microclimates.
A good illustration of why thresholds aren't that important in classification - they give a false impression of climates in the city being fundamentally different in cause and effect, when it's really just a bit of variation due to geography I used to point this out to a certain Spanish member when he kept boasted about 13 climate zones that were basically just altitude moderated versions of the same climate.

Is London's climate more like NYC or Göle? London is a sunnier Trabzon with cooler summers.
