Not sure if I've posted these anywhere before but I probably have. Anyway, I love cold semi-arid, steppe, and desert landscapes (except for Tucson). These two unedited photos are from the Tetons in Wyoming in July 2014. The weather was ~21C with low dew points and very windy, as you can see the wave action in the water: They came out pretty well for how crappy that cell phone camera was.

A few pics from the Chugach mountains just to the east of Anchorage. Taken on 14th May 2010, during twilight (which lasts until 11:48pm on that day so I'd say these are at least around 11pm at night, fucken) Some lucky fuckers have houses right there on the top of the ridge if you look close enough: Mount Susitna (looks like a woman laying on her back) in the background. Always loved that mountain. Getting fuckaaan high on them high-latitude lichens and herbs, fucken fuck! Blurry view of south Anchorage: Looking south, you can see those very same houses from the first pic quite far below now. Didn't realize I gained so much elevation on this trek: It's pretty barren up there. Just rocks, a few grasses, and minimal lichens: Ok, you got me...I miss Alaska. Fuck.

One of the most beautiful places in China, Qinghai Lake. It has a relatively similar climate to Denver.

Some pics from the Brooks Range in 2009 September. Not sure if I posted any from there but here's a selection I took. My favourite place in Alaska by far... This is looking south toward the Brooks Range as we were on the North Slope: Does this remind you of any mineral Moron? Awesome skies

Found some more pics from the Anchorage Fairbanks to Deadhorse/Prudhoe Bay drive, September 6-7th 2009. I'll warn you, there are a lot of pictures here! Denali at dusk: Tried to eke out everything in the camera settings to see it more clearly: Lots of dead bugs. Probably not all mosquitoes but I'm sure they are in there somewhere: The best Denny's I've ever been to, which was a surprise. In Fairbanks: At Your Own Risk Rd, just outside of Fairbanks. Whöler guy must have a house up there. Mostly out of focus but goddamn that is a lot of yellow: The Yukon River: Weather was perfect, 15C with dry air. Guessing the dew point was around -5C: On the banks of the Yukon: The car is still clean. From here, I took over driving duties the rest of the way to Deadhorse: Getting closer to Coldfoot: Love it here: I saw a random turn off from the road and found a nice secluded area: The next few pics are pretty much an autumnal heaven to me. Just a beautiful, enchanting place: Moving on, this was farther north. Since the air was so dry, it really did feel and look like a desert: Very dry landscape here with no grass just dirt, burnt black spruce, and these alder or birch trees: Had a nice short walk from the road: Dry: Mmmm! Clouds to the north. Hmm I wonder what that will bring? Blueberries off the side of the road. The best ones I've ever had. I ate as many as possible. Next stop was at Coldfoot for fuel: Entering the Brooks Range, the ancestral Rockies: Approaching Atigun Pass. Atigun Pass is nice: Dirty fucking car, as it should be in these parts: Over the pass and on the North Slope, musk oxen are the first sight on the tundra: They were difficult to get good photos of. Had to edit this to make them more visible: Dalton with rocky berms: Then snow began suddenly. Probably around Sagwon: What you see upon entering Deadhorse: Later that night in Deadhorse: Next morning: Anyone want to live here?: Aight, so this is the Alaskan Arctic. Might as well head home then: It was a good car, doing +100mph on the Dalton: Headed south: Lots of pipes and shiiieeet: Talked to some reindeer hunters here. It was colder than the Arctic coast: Back Atigun Pass: All these trucks hauled ass. It was a bit scary: Took a break at Coldfoot on the way back. Goddamn that area is so nice. This epitomizes Alaska to me: And this: Back in Coldfoot for lunch: Weird place name: Took a wrong turn in the bush: Finally reached the camp outside Fairbanks. Ate meat and drank beer: On the way back I drove from the campsite outside Fairbanks to the Wasilla area, stopping at ~6am. Probably the most fatigued I've ever been driving. It was a short but amazing trip.

I know. I love Alaska. It's like a first love you don't get over. Kinda weird.
I gotta go there again soon. That said, I'd go there any time of year.

Damn. The PEI photos were great and all, but this is on another level.
I'd like to drive it in February some time when AK is having a cold winter.
January would be ideal temps-wise but some sunlight is necessary.
