🖕🏿Mörön🖕🏿 Look at the massive mounds on the side, one full lane is taken up by snow! I wonder where they put it? Cities in the US dump snow in empty lots. I don't think Japan would dump it in the river, since all the dirt on the road would pollute the river then.
They also make snow melting trucks but those are meant for smaller places like stadiums, not entire cities.

I think they will eventually scoop it up into dump trucks and put it somewhere lol. Rumoi (on the west coast) also gets pounded with huge drifts. Not too bad right now though: www.stv.jp/webcam/rumoi/index.html

Svalbard is barely making it into civil twilight at solar noon: Svalbard is the model polar community (as opposed to Barrow, Iqaluit, Nuuk, Norilsk). If I were Norwegian I'd definitely try living there for a year or two, just for the experience. But upon further reading, it appears almost anyone can move there provided they can show adequate funds and/or have a job in place: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_SvalbardAlso, this is quite amusing: "Because of the town’s remoteness, there are laws in place that are found in few, if any, other places in the world. Notable examples of such laws include a ban on cats, a restriction on how much alcohol an individual can purchase on a monthly basis, and a requirement that any individuals venturing outside carry a rifle for protection against polar bears." Hmm...
