Ariete Oulu is near perfect for my liking so far this year
Let's see what the spring brings with it. In terms of averages it will start to take a hit compared to the more southern stations this time of the year.

March in Malta was (surprisingly) above average, with around average rainfall, though only because of two very wet days & average sunshine, despite three days where no sunshine was recorded. The cold and wet pattern that began in October continues. March saw the first temperature over 20C since October on the 27th. The temperature averages are slightly misrepresentative: it began with a week of extreme below-average temperatures, while the rest of the month hovered mostly near or slightly above average. Regardless, it certainly wasn't hot, which is more than can be said for past Marches! Max: 73F (-5.4F) Avg high: 49.5F (-5.6F) Avg low: 30.9F (-2.5F) Min: -2F (-15.8F) Overall temp departure: -4.0F Total precipitation: 3.29" (+0.92"/138%) Total snowfall: 2.8" (+0.8"/140%)

Average high (C): 34.2 Maximum high (C): 36.7 Minimum high (C): 28.2
Average low (C): 26.6 Maximum low (C): 28.4 Minimum low (C): 24.6
Rainfall (mm): 3 Days with rain > 1 mm: 2
A warm, dry month. Not much to say. Quite sunny with next to no rain, but still enough to end a two month drought.

March was a rather decent month this year. It started off quite cold as the historical cold snap we experienced through most of February was winding down, with numerous nights below -20C in the first two weeks (and two nights below -30C, culminating in a low of -37C on the 2nd), however it did warm up rapidly afterwards and we had many above average days in the second half of the month. It was also a very dry month with less than a fifth of normal precipitation. The snow melt began around mid-March and by the end of the month almost all the snow was gone except occasional small piles in shaded and grassy areas, which was nice. Last year March was several degrees below average, with winter coming back full blast toward the end of the month, and the year before that I was still living in Vancouver and that March was the gloomiest on record and one of the wettest in terms of precipitation days. So by comparison this has been a very reasonable start to spring. Stats... Average high: -0.1 (normal: -0.1) Average low: -12.2 (normal: -9.7) Mean temperature: -6.1 (normal: -4.9) Warmest high: 14.3 (Mar 22nd) Warmest low: -1.0 (Mar 26th) Coldest high: -21.6 (Mar 2nd) Coldest low: -36.9 (Mar 2nd) Warmest mean: 6.4 (Mar 22nd) Coldest mean: -29.2 (Mar 2nd) Precipitation: 2.7 (normal: 14.5) Precipitation days: 3 (normal: 8.2) The SRC weather station has not yet published its March data so I don't have any sunshine numbers at the moment. Didn't really notice the sunshine or lack thereof one way or another, so I can't really estimate whether it might have been above or below average.

Norway March 2019
For the country as a whole, March was 1.2°C above the old 1961-90 normal, in other words very normal if a more recent normal was used. This is the 12th consecutive month that the country as a whole is warmer than the normal (61-90).
March was relatively warmest in the south of the country, while some stations in the far north was 1°C colder than the old normal. Precipitation was 160 % of normal, among the 10 wettest since 1900.
In the high Arctic, Svalbard Airport/Longyearbyen recorded mean -12.6°C, (+3.1°C), making it now 100 consecutive months warmer than normal.
Warmest mean: 5°C - Stavanger Airport and Fister. Coldest mean: - 11.4°C Gamanjunni (1237 m ASL). Coldest populated place: -10.3°C Kautokeino

Wettest:475.8 mm Gullfjellet near Bergen Driest: 10.7 mm Cuovdathmohkki
Trondheim:
A cold start to March, then it turned snowy. Temperature slighly below 81-2010 normal and almost smack on 61-90 normal. Unusual: The city itself was much wetter than the airport, 129.8 mm at Voll (256 %) three times as much as Værnes!
Clody: The cloudiest March since sunrecording started at a decent place with less blocking. This followed the cloudiest Feb these last four years, so we should have saved up some good weather. Warmest high in the city: 15.1°C at Lade. The stations in the city have warmer lows, and one has not gone below -9.3°C so far in 2019. Snow: Mean snow depth at Lade (13 m): 1 cm. Mean snow depth at Saupstad (135 m): 36 cm.

Within 1'C of the record for many stations in the south, but no records. Many rainfall records in the south. Still very wet in the north. Above sunshine compared to 61-90, below sunshine compared to 02-16

Third month in a row below average. The first week was very cold. March 4th was 7/-10F (-14/-23C) in Madison, coldest March day since 1962, but nowhere close to the record. Milwaukee was 11/-5F (-12/-21C), coldest since 2002's 12/-6F. (-11/-21C) and 3F from the record coldest daily mean. It was windy too, so wind chill was in the -20s F (-30C) that morning. The last half of the month was mostly dry, sunny, and average. Madison only saw 3 precipitation days in March using the 1mm threshold. Snowfall was below normal in both cities and all of it fell in the first half of the month. Snow cover melted on the 13th. Lowest wind chill in Milwaukee -24.5F/-31.4C (-5F/13mph) and Madison -23.9F/-31.1C (-8F/8mph)
