Basra is a hard one to beat in summer for heat.

Basra is a hard one to beat in summer for heat. Ouch.. UV indexes seem a little low though?

Fuck that. Impressive. If that materializes, then that would tie/break the all-time record high for the entire Eastern Hemisphere (or the world record if the 134°F Death Valley reading were decertified).

Funnily enough, I just googled Mitribah and found that exactly four years ago "the temperature at this location hit the third highest temperature ever reliably recorded on Earth at 53.9 °C".

I find this an interesting weather forecast. I don't think it's a 'hot place' in the exact sense of the word, but the latitude is tropical.

Compared to mid-summer the weather is cooler.

Bump. Death Valley is forecast 127°F highs Thursday and Friday!

Fuck that. Is this source even reliable? I mean highs between 50-54C for a week straight on a location near a humid sea? Even inland this seems a bit unrealistic and outlandish. I just never counted on this weather website.

Baghdad now joining in I honestly find these such ridiculously high forecasts to be pretty false and unreliable. I don't know man. I really don't trust the Iraqi/Middle Eastern meteorology department. Not that they're intentionally giving false readings (who knows anyway), but I just think they're overstating such absurdly hot temps. They're probably using that heat logger thingie that "Penroids" did at Berkshire Park which read temperatures as high as 52C. Seriously. And alright, if it's 52C in Baghdad and Basra, then the arid central parts of the Sahara must be 58C at most. But they're not...

But let's be generous. Basra and Baghdad are populated places with pavements, concrete buildings and dirt. If anything, maybe such factors are causing these ridiculously high summer temperatures. And it will be really obtuse of them to have weather stations in the middle of this urban drama: Without all these blocks and cars, 51C will be be 45C at best.

I just never counted on this weather website. See the previous post by crunch, showing the monthly readings from Mitribah. It lasts much longer than a week! I've spent a lot of time in the Middle East, I can confirm that even by the coast, the heat is absolutely ridiculous, not to mention the insane humidity. They're known for lying about the heat in Saudi Arabia from when I was there. I think in Riyadh it was if it was something like 47C(or something like that, can't remember), then outdoor work could stop. So often you'd get a reading .1 degree below that to keep people working 😂

But 40C+ heat is unbearably oppressive either way (for me mind you Lol), whether it's dry or humid. Yep, I remember you mentioned that you worked in the Middle East with your nice little mini ME diaries back in the C-D days. Aha, so they lie by decreasing the temperature so people would stay at work work. So the opposite of what I thought. Funny, my father used to tell me the same thing about Baghdad's weather forecasters, how they lied by intentionally lowering the temperatures by a few degrees (so 44C instead of 50C) because "people will be scared" or something. But I thought it was a local conspiracy theory and scare tactic.
