Let's rate New Zealand!
To me the country gets a B+. It gets marked down slightly for its relative lack of diversity (mostly composed of milder oceanic climates), and for some chilly and somewhat gloomy climates in the south like Invercargill. I also suspect wind can be an issue in many cities.
For me, I think Ashburton is the best climate while invercargill is likely not so good due to it's extremely moderated summers, and Milford Sound due to its excessive rainfall.
I find NZ sun distributions to be quite intriguing, as they differ greatly from NH ones, having more crisp sunny days in winter that mimic subtropical highland climates, which match its fascinating vegetation. Many locations also have interesting diurnal ranges that add diversity. I perhaps will incorporate more elements from NZ (and arg/chile as well) in my next revision of my dream climate!

C. Generally comfortable climates in the inhabited areas & home to the most southerly growing palm in the world.

I'll land in a B+ because parts of the South Island are really bad. Most of the North Island is either A/A-/B+ though and there are some strong A-/B+ areas also on the northern end of the South Island before it transitions into B/B-/C+ farther south.

This ain't it chief. I'll be nice and give it a D- instead of the E it deserves.

I give an A- for having the least 30+°C days among the similar latitude and altitude areas in the world.

@logan5 I just looked up windspeeds on weatherspark for auckland and wellington and found them to be on the high side. Presume parts of the island are nore sheltered...

Not good. Lots of Es, some Fs, lots of Ds, Alexandra is the best and that’s only a C+. I’ll give it a D-.

D+
South Island is not so good. North Island is alright but it lacks proper summers and seems too damp.

Was gunna say B for bland, but thats too generous. C at best. Mind you I have only been to the South Island and that was in summer AND experienced a nice heatwave of days around 32c. My son campervaned around the South in June 2015 and experienced -19c at Twizel in the MacKenzie District and later ended up in hospital in Queenstown with cold related illness, probably mild hypothermia. Him and his two equally stupid mates flew in from tropical Darwin to Christchurch with no winter clothing or indeed experience of temps below +12c....silly pricks !

C+ I'll give it, winter precipitation and temps are decent in most of the country. Could use some more variety, much warmer springs and summers, and much more summer drought, but overall pleasant and inoffensive as it is.

D+. Summers are a disaster for the latitude most places.

Discounting the Outlying Islands, it ranges from B- to D. So it is a C.

D+. Summers are a disaster for the latitude most places. This. Not a good country for a weather enthusiast. And as far as I know, they get a very small amount of T-storms. D it is.
