I've mentioned in shoutbox before that some climates in Iran and Afghanistan may be comparable to the American Southwest. These are two climates that I found to be very similar. Which one is better? I'll go with Shiraz for more rainfall and cooler summer nights.

I can't really vote. They are both absolutely horrible, equally.

St George easily. Drier winters, more storms, more variability.

Shiraz for me. More winter precip. St George has a monsoon, maybe places in western Pakistan may be a bettet match, like a warmer area around en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quetta

Shiraz for more precip and more stable temps.
I've experienced 45C in St. George before. Won't happen in Shiraz.
Not a fan of extreme cold waves in winter either. St. George has a much longer recording period but even for just 1951-2010 it has noticeably more extreme records.

Shiraz for cooler nights and more rain overall. St. George has a much better rain distribution but it's way too dry and 0.9 snowy days a year isn't much.

St. George, Utah; more variable, exciting, greater heat, colder winter potential, storms, etc.

Shiraz edges it out with better rainfall and higher diurnals in summer.

Shiraz, as summer is drier, and winter is the same both places

Hard to choose really. I like St George's drier winters, but I also like Shiraz's epic sunshine hours. How sunny is St George? If it's in the 2600 range then I'm going with Shiraz.
