rozenn, heard this on the radio. Supposedly there's regulations in France where at least half the songs on the radio must be in French. So there was a big gap in the market for musicians who did covers of English language songs, but in French.

So there was a big gap in the market for musicians who did covers of English language songs, but in French. Never heard about these. Yeah such covers were popular in the 60s, much less after that. Now the French stuff is just... French. Lots of of singers also invented anglo-sounding stage names in the 60s. This one was actually named Jean-Philippe Smet and had a huge fanbase in France and Belgium for some reason: There was even a guy named Dick Rivers.  |
