Not only Portland's most oceanic year in terms of difference between warmest and coldest months, but one of its most bizarre years on record. There was no summer to speak of, warmest day of the year was in May. One out of three days in July and August failed to break 70ΒΊF/21ΒΊC. Essentially the same atmospheric pattern stuck around for three straight months, putting a megatrough over the PNW and a megaridge over the Rockies and Plains (1954 was one of Colorado's hottest summers on record). Strong La NiΓ±a, very low PDO, and low solar were the conditions during this time period. I give it a D-/D.

C- upon further consideration. Summer is weak but the spring and fall save it from a D.

C. Comfortable and unintrusive, but overall too boring and monotonous.
