August 2019 SummaryWell below average temperatures, jointly with below-average precipitation; however, for 7 days of precipitation, snow managed to fall on all 7 of those days. Measured snow depth was approximately 40 cm in total for this month alone, give or take, depending on undulation—took the measurements myself (of course), so the accuracy is questionable at best. Snow frequency was below average, whilst the snow depth was above average; heavy dumps from just two separate major snowstorm events, with lighter snowfall events straddling in-between. Farthermore, snow-levels this year dropped to an astonishing 200-250 m AMSL at 35° S; comprising the New South Welsh towns and settlements of Cootamundra, Gundagai, and Tumut; with multiple, heavier snowfalls in Yass, Young, and Burrinjuck (400-500 m AMSL). Also of note, is that I've managed a 2-week lasting snowpack! From the 9th of August to the 23rd, until heavy NW rain and following warm temperatures + sunshine melted it down. A truly wintry August—would've been particularly epic with double the precipitation. The 3 ice-days this month, along with persistent clouds, certainly assisted with the 2-week snowpack; on those 3 days, i.e. the 9th, 10th, and 19th, it struggled to surpass –2° C in maxima.

Very monotonous and stable month. Normal temps and precipitation. The main noteworthy things were that unusually the record high was recorded in the last days of the month and the record low in the early days.
Deviations from 91-18:
high: +0.4C mean: +0.4C low: +0.3C precipitation: 108%
Record high: 26.9C (28th) Highest low: 17.1C (29th) Lowest high: 18.6C (4th) Record low: 6.4C (4th and 5th)
Days above,
25C: 3 20C: 25
Days below,
20C: 6 10C: 6
Days with thunder: 5 (all between the 6th and 13th)
The rest of the boxes will come tomorrow when FMI updates its open data.

Pretty good looking year so far. May was cool but not that far below average, and January was below average but not by that much by winter standards. The other months were consistently average or above average

Actually May was as average you can get:
I guess you can call it an average month.
Deviations from 91-18: high, mean, low: 0.0C
precipitation: 93% of normal. Record high: 27.8C (21st), tied highest temp in the country in May.
Lowest high: 3.8C (3rd), 2nd lowest May high on record. Highest low: 14.6C (20th) Record low: -2.6C (4th and 5th) Rest of the country will be posted tomorrow.
But yeah, a good year so far.

Umeå shitport: While the entire rest of the fucking Nordics were breaking late-august records we had an extremely cold monthly max. Temps compared to 91-18 and 02-18
Highs: -0.4/-0.9 Lows: +0.3/+0.1 A very average month in terms of mean, but below average with highs. Precipitation compared to 61-90
100% dead average; Umeå doesn't record rainfall so I had to interpolate between nearby stations, so the 70mm is an estimate. Sunshine compared to 02-18
100% dead average. All in all, this august was remarkably average in every way except highs and, especially, the extreme max which was far below normal. A very stable month when the rest of the Nordics had a massive heatwave towards the end.

Turku did not. The record is 29.8C on 28 August 1997. Not that it's much of a consolation, but still.

Paris, Île-de-France, France August 2019 . . . Highest: 33.4°C [26th,27th] I was clever to choose the right date to take a short trip in Bretagne that period Paris-Montsouris 26 August: High 33.4°C / Low 18.5°C 27 August: High 33.4°C / Low 20.6°C Dinard / St-Malo 26 August: High 20.4°C / Low 15.1°C 27 August: High 23.7°C / Low 16.7°C So 32.8°C would be the personal highest temperature for the month.

August was drier and a bit warmer than normal. Stayed humid throughout the month and not that much variation in temperatures. Dried out following a very wet July with no rain from Aug 1-13. Did have some good t-storms in the area; best storm I had overhead was on Aug 28. Days with thunder: 9 Lowest max: 83F Highest min: 78F Highest dewpoint: 79F Average dewpoint: 74F Lowest dewpoint: 67F I think the 98F on the chart below is an error. The data I see on NWS site shows the high on Aug 6 was actually 93F.
