posted this in the shoutbox many times; this was Freddie Mercury's 39th birthday party. Extremely festive and decadent looking. over the top in its flamboyance

rozenn , live on French TV? You'd be surprised by how unaware of the fact we are of the fact that some of our musicians perform, and are popular in non-anglophone countries. The media doesn't seem to care about that angle, acts that conquer America seem to get all the glory.

I think pretty much everywhere in Yurop at least, people will listen to domestic as well as British & American music mostly. So acts like Ed Sheeran or Bruno Mars are every bit as popular as domestic ones. Sure people also listen to music from other countries, but not to the same extent. I take it Kate Bush isn't all that popular in the US? Moar Kate Bush <3

Most of out young female stars cite her as their biggest idol. Eccentric artists often were, even the likes of Queen and David Bowie often had a hard time over there. They much preferred a band like Led Zeppelin over a band like Pink Floyd, the latter was too artsy for them. Straight rock n' roll was a much easier sell.
