Melbourne and Beijing both sit at relatively similar latitudes; 37S & 39N, respectively, but have very different climates. They are both disliked on here for various reasons and these reasons fall mostly into two camps; stability and instability. In terms of Beijing, cold lovers would appreciate the winter temps but probably be very annoyed at the lack of snow due to the extremely strong presence of the Siberian anti-cyclone. On the other hand, heat lovers would enjoy the stable, hot summers but the relatively low sunshine in the summer may be grating. In terms of Melbourne, heat lovers would enjoy the absence of cold record lows and the relatively frequent heatwaves the city experiences. However, they wouldn't enjoy the instability of summer going from 40 to 20 in a day and wet, cool winters. On the other hand, cold lovers would appreciate the low maximums Melbourne frequently experiences in the summer but again would be uncomfortable with the intense heatwaves. Moreover, cold lovers would hate the total lack of snowfall but cool to mild temps for most of the year may be enticing enough. IMO this battle is not clear-cut and could go either way. Although, I would have to choose Melbourne for the overall absence of freezing temps and the allure of heatwaves.

trolik Add images of the climate boxes to your post please! dont know how to do that, could u just do it lol? I can when I get back home, donโt have a computer rn. Itโs not too hard, just screenshot an image of the box on wikipedia, upload it to imgur, and copy paste the โbb-codeโ link into your post.

Beijing. It actually gets cold, a chance of snow and is dry most of the year. Melbourne has better summers though.

I would give both a C+,decent climates but too dry overall, Melbourne is also too erratic in summer, but overall seems more comfortable than Beijing during the season, as the latter has heat and humidity levels comparable to the lowland American South. Beijing's winter is too dry for my preference and a touch too cold, while Melbourne's seems too mild; pleasantly so, but not quite chilly/wintry enough. Overall Beijing seems to be more interesting overall (although Melbourne's summers would have an element of that as well) while Melbourne is more comfortable.

Melbourne; far superior in summer, and still superior in winter. Cool + wet winters >>>> frigid + dry winters.

Don't need to check the climate boxes to know it's Melbourne. Beijing is a horrible climate; steambath summers and cold snowless winters

I will go with Beijing for the warmer averages in summer and more sunshine, despite the cold winters.

Melb. May observe higher maxima but that lasts only a few days and after getting compensated by cool blowing southerly winds helping to barely reach 20ยฐC next day.

Melbourne for sure.
Really good climate, while Beijing has the worst of both worlds in winter: cold with pretty much zero snow.

Melbourne. Much better summers with variability and cooler averages. Winter is boring, but not terrible.
Beijing gets colder, but it doesn't get much snow. I don't like the summer temperatures, the rainfall pattern, or the sunshine pattern. Winter is cold, but without snow, I'd prefer a milder winter. Or maybe have a solid month below freezing so there is some thick, solid ice on the lakes (if any lakes exist). If it had the exact same sun and rain totals as Melbourne in every month, I'd vote for it easily.

Melbourne, the instability is annoying but in general the summers are more pleasant than the stinking humidity of Beijing.

Beijing. Winters are not great but far better than Melbourne's, and summers, while unpleasant, are no worse than KC's. Actually, with the cloudiness, they may be slightly better.
