December 2019 Summary (Annual)DecemberNotwithstanding the absurd, record-breaking cold maxima early in December (as well as two [2!] snowy days), a miracle of a record-breaking heatwave arrived; this heatwave has now rendered a +3° C anomaly by December maxima, although with minima still around average. Variability was beyond prodigious, with the lowest daily maximum failing to surpass 5.3° C; the highest daily maximum, 33.8° C; precipitation greatly below average, falling chiefly with the polar front early in the month. Annual
Annual Maximum Temperature = 15.0° C (near average) Annual Minimum Temperature = 2.3° C (below average) Annual Mean Temperature = 8.7° C (near average) Precipitation = 894.5 mm (greatly below average) Precipitation Days (>0.2 mm) = 96 (greatly below average) Snowy Days = 39 (above average) Ice-Days (<0.0° C Maxima) = 7 (above average)

Chrome crashed twice while I wrote this summary, so this is my third time writing it… December was a good month. It was a fair bit above average with a 24h mean of only -1.9'C (Holmön even managed a mean above freezing). The high was +1.7/+1.3 compared to 91-18/02-18 and the low was +2.4/+2.3. Precipitation is only approximate, and about 140% of the 61-90 average, and sunshine was only at 73% of average. December this year was actually eerily identical to November. Literally the only difference statwise was a slightly higher diurnal range, and that's it. When it comes to the year as a whole it was a pretty average year though slightly below average with a +0.1/-0.1 high and -0.4/-0.3 low deviation from 91-18/02-18. Precipitation was pretty average at about 104% compared to 61-90 (109% compared to 02-18). Sunshine was also pretty average at 106%, though unfortunately we just missed out on the 2000h mark. Highlights of the year are April, June and December, as well as that 31.1'C in July. The nadir was every month from July through November being below average.

Falsterbo equaled its previous national annual mean record of 10.4'C using the SMHI method of calculating mean temperatures. It was however 10.38 vs 10.42 when you add another decimal. Here's the two warmest years in Swedish history side by side (can't be bothered to create two wiki weatherboxes, so infoclimat will have to do. Some monthly averages might deviate by 0.1'C but who cares) 2014 2019

December 2019 was slightly above average in Saskatoon, and drier than normal. It was about as reasonable as you can expect for this time of the year out here. Average high: -6.9C (normal: -8.0C) Average low: -17.1C (normal: -18.3C) Mean temperature: -12.0C (normal: -13.2C) Highest high: 3.6C (Dec 3rd) Highest low: -7.4C (Dec 24th) Lowest high: -18.5C (Dec 11th) Lowest low: -31.1C (Dec 14th) Precipitation total: 4.1mm (normal: 12.9mm) Precipitation days: 4 (normal: 9.7) Sunshine stats aren't out yet but felt pretty average to me. As for 2019 as whole, the yearly mean was 1.2C compared to a 30-year-average of 2.6C. It started off with a fairly unremarkable January, which was followed by the fourth coldest February on record, which was also the second coldest month in my lifetime in pure numbers and the coldest month in my lifetime relative to average. Spring started off very nice with a consistent snow-melt and no more ice days starting in mid-March, and plenty of above average temperatures in April, culminating in budding leaves in the second half of April, a fairly rare sight around here. This all came to a crashing halt as May completely shit the bed, with the first night of the month having a colder record low than the entirety of April, and the month was plagued by well below average nights which slowed vegetation progress greatly. Late May and early June were great, feeling like a proper lead-up to summer, then the second half of June was mostly cool and rainy, and the entire summer (especially August) was disappointingly mild. Things picked up a bit in September which was nicer than average (and much nicer than the absolute crapfest of a September that we'd had the previous year), feeling like a slightly cooler continuation of August rather than a proper fall month... until the last week of the month when it suddenly got very cold, which dragged the averages down and marked the true beginning of fall for us. We had snow on the last day of September, the second year in a row with snow in September, after a lifetime of having never seen it before. October started off cold as well with several nights around -10C at Thanksgiving weekend, which killed all remaining color and vegetation in the landscape. The last week of the month also saw one night dropping down to -19C, colder than we'd normally get in the month. After that, November and December felt relatively unremarkable for the most part.

Quite a boring year even by Vancouver standards. February is the obvious highlight. December was the worst month by far. The best warm season month was probably June but it's hard to say since they're all so similar. Most of September was shit except the last weekend saw quite a nice cold front come through with sunny skies and low dew points. So yeah, either June or September.

December here was warmer & drier than average. The last 3 days of the month did see a cold snap however with chilly NE'ly winds & thundery showers with hail. Sunshine was around average & would have been above as a couple of days had hazy sunshine all day caused by Saharan dust, but no sun was recorded by the airport's CS recorder. The year as a whole came in 0.4C above the 1981-2010 average, rainfall was above average here & a little below at the airport, sunshine was below average. From this month I also have the monthly data from two other Met Office stations, Msida, which is inland from Valletta & Benghajsa, which is situated on the south coast of the Island at the entrance to Marsaxlokk harbour. Stats from my PWS in St. Paul's Bay: Av. Max: 18.5C (+0.7C) Av. Min : 15.3C (+0.9C) Mean : 16.9C (+0.8C) Highest Max: 21.6C (3rd) Lowest Min : 10.0C (31st) Lowest Max: 13.8C (31st) Highest Min: 18.1C (3rd & 18th) Rainfall: 53.7mm (50%) Days with Rain: 14 Days with Thunder: 3 Days with Hail: 2 Sunshine: 171.0hrs (104%) Max UV: 2.6 (1st) Min UV : 1.5 (29th)

December turned out to be a bit above average, above average precip, and below average snowfall.
2019 was about average temperature wise, but was the 3rd wettest year on record here. Wettest was 2018.

Six consecutive highs in the 60s during the week of Christmas propelled us to the 9th warmest December on record. The mean temperature was warmer than November, which hasn't happened since 1984. For the year as a whole, the most noteworthy things were breaking the October record high by 4ºF and recording the first month ever with no precipitation.

Third warmest December ever, tying with 2011 and 2013. Sunshine hours were extra suicidical as well. At least it can't get much worse.

So, a February warmer than a March and a December warmer than a November, what should normally be the wettest month of the year was actually the driest, record highs for February and July (which was also an all-time record), and above-average temperatures, rainfall and sun overall, with February being the sunniest on record. We've now had above-average sun in 16 out of the last 17 years
