I’m going to put all my weatherboxes in this thread rather than the December 2019 thread. Now if you don’t want to see them, don’t open this thread. As I have the past few years, I’ve made a bunch of yearly weatherboxes. If there’s any place you want me to do, let me know. But they would have to open the thread to see this In all seriousness, I love seeing weatherboxes from all different sorts of places. Monthly summaries are probably my favourite threads.

I like to see these, too. If you are looking for some interesting ones, Marquette MI had a very snowy February, and some places in Montana had extreme cold in February followed by snow again in September. Cut Bank or Great falls maybe? Edit: some ideas Coldest stations in MT in february, from xmACIS2. Other notable stations: East Glacier, MT -0.4 Galata N/A Bynum +1.6 Choteau +0.8 and -0.1 Rudyard -5.7 Snowiest in September: Other notables: Cut Bank, Great Falls, and Havre are on the list Opheim 10 N 4.0 Opheim 12 SSE 1.7 Glasgow Trace

Hell yes. Was this a below average winter or about average? A bit below. January averages 22/5 and February 25/6. December was slightly above. Snowfall of 227" was almost double the average of 117". February was incredible for the snow totals AND the consistent cold. Very few places can get such an extreme snowfall and cold at the same time. Near constant lake-effect snow. I can't imagine getting that much snow. Milwaukee gets 6 inches and people think it's some huge storm. Marquette got that several times over. I'm sure it caused some problems, but that much snow would shut down most cities.
Most of it is very fluffy and comes at much lower temperatures than "normal" snow. The 13th-18th is a good example. Lots of cold nights, and some days with 30:1 snow ratios (9.1" on 0.28" is 33:1).
Speagles84 The snowiest city in the area is Houghton which is close to Marquette's 2019. It is out on a peninsula so it gets a lot of lake-effect snow. Wikipedia has 1971-2000 normals, but it averaged 218" and is a few degrees colder than Marquette's 1981-2010. Marquette is a larger city but Houghton still has a university and stores and things. The snowiest weather station is Herman with 236".
This was a cold year for Marquette but comparing the data to the Wikipedia normals is misleading. Wikipedia uses a station called Marquette and the data in this post is from Marquette WFO. The first station is right on Lake Superior in town. The second is a few miles inland, and 800 feet higher. I'm curious why it's only colder at night - the means are 50/30 versus 50/36 for the lower elevation lakeside station. Also, why is the official station in such a bad spot?
