A shitty month which was just a continuation of the 5-month November. In fact, March had the most wintry conditions of any of them, ahead of November. In a normal winter year March would've been actually really nice, but this year it felt very disappointing.
Highest high: 9.6C (28th) Highest low: 3.8C (9th and 10th) Lowest high: 0.8C (14th) Lowest low: -11.4C (31st, LOLZ)
Departure from 91-19:
High: +2.3C Mean: +2.7C Low: +2.9C Precipitation: 128%

Yuck. Thank God I don't have to live through such an abhorrent oceanic climate.

You say that now, but when in Bunghole this would've been the best winter ever.

This March was somewhat warmer and wetter than average in OKC, with a +3.2F/+1.8C temp anomaly vs. 1981-2010, and 1.98" (50 mm) more rain than normal. There was a chilly, cloudy, rainy period in the middle of the month, but other than that it felt warm and springlike. It seemed like it was cloudier than normal, but sunshine data isn't recorded so I don't know for sure. We got a couple decent thunderstorms, but nothing too crazy. The 92F/33C on March 26 was the hottest March temperature since 2006, when it also hit 92. The dewpoint was only around 55F/13C that day, so it wasn't that unpleasant, but still hotter than I prefer for March. Spring plant growth seemed to be about 1-2 weeks ahead of normal for most of the month; it's only early April and things are already mostly green.

The new 1991-2020 mean temperature normal for March in Norway compared to the old 1961-90. cred: met.no Up to 3.6C warming inland SE.
Trondheim, Stavanger, Kristiansand, Narvik have warmed 1.1C-1.5C. Oslo, Røros and Alta have warmed around 2C.
Karasjok has warmed ca 3C
Svalbard Airport/Longyearbyen was 0.5C colder in March 2020 than the old 1961-90 normal - the first month below normal since Nov 2010! A very strong polar vortex this winter and March.

At least under covid19 lockdown I can try to make the monthly averages more quickly than how I usually do... These are the stats for Grenoble: Basically, the weather turned quickly toward spring conditions, with a dry second half of the month (which is a little bit annoying, because it corresponded with the beginning of the "stay at home!" measures) Back to the village the month was slightly cooler than usual instead, mostly because of a late cold wave which hit the most of Italy around the end of the month. Curiously, March was actually cooler than February too (Feb had quite a lot of warm foehn wind days which rose a lot the temps stats)

Below average month with normal precipitation. Most days are quite chilly and the overall maximum temperature is anemic for March. This was the 4th straight month with mean temperature in the 6.4-7°C range, counting December 2019. Highest temperature: 62°F/17°C (20th) Lowest temperature: 30°F/-1°C (16th, 17th) Lowest maximum: 42°F/6°C (13th) Highest minimum: 46°F/8°C (28th, 29th) Average high: 51.6°F/10.9°C Daily mean: 44.6°F/7.0°C (-2.0°F/1.1°C) Average low: 37.6°F/3.1°C Precipitation: 3.38"/86 mm (-0.13"/-3 mm, 96%) Precipitation days: 17 This looks like one month just copy and pasted over and over again

March was warm and wetter than average. 4.5F above normal. The 8th reached 65F/18C, very warm for early March. For a while it was on pace to have zero snow or ice days, but then the 21st had a high of 32F and it snowed overnight on the 22nd-23rd. That was the most wintry part of March. The 28th had a thunderstorm and some heavy rain, the first thunderstorm of the year. Most days were a few degrees above average. The monthly low of 23F/-5C was tied the second mildest on record, and much milder than the -5F/-21C in March 2019.

Ariete what was wrong with this month lol? It was almost 3'C above average in Turku. I thought our March was very good, and ours wasn't nearly as warm compared to average as yours. Apart from the first week, we averaged about 4/-3'C. Since the 3rd of March we haven't had a single ice day either. It's been an above average month, albeit not nearly as mild as some other recent Marches, and it's been a little above average in terms of sunshine and only a littlreabove average in terms of precipitation. I think we've had like half a year of consistently above average precipitation now... Temps compared to the 1991-2020 normal: Highs: +1.2 Mean: +1.9 Lows: +3.1 Sunshine compared to 2002-2018: 106% Precipitation compared to 1961-1990: 112%

And here's Lund. A very warm start to the year, and a very stable start to the year. January is still the warmest month so far in terms of mean temperature. Temperatures compared to 1991-2020 normal: Highs: +1.2 Mean: +1.7 Lows: +1.3 Sunshine compared to 02-15: 110% Precipitation compared to 1961-1990: 40% A good month for Lund. Warmer than average, slightly sunnier than average, and much drier than average. And some leaves in March.

Sunmary for the country. So far every single month this decade has had stations that have either beaten their temperature mean record, or come within 1'C. I believe a couple stations did so in December last year as well. Closest to record breaking temps in the south, and on the Baltic islands especially. Slightly above sunshine across the board (or significantly above average compared to 1961-1990), in the aouthernmost station in the country, Falsterbo, it was the sunniest since at least 2002, and very consistently reasonably average precipitation. A very good month, although maybe it has felt disappointing for some since it's the coldest month in over a year in many parts of the country.

Babu as I said, in a normal year March would've been great (except for the record high), but this year it was just a continuation of January and February.

Think you’ve been even worse with cold Marches than us in recent years
