A 3 at least. While the general vibe is acceptable, under the surface the place is an echo chamber and does not tolerate any sort of disagreement, debate or critical thinking. You're either part of the consensus (aka CNN) or OMG how can you say that you nazi/denier/sociopath//incel/tinfoil hat. Even people's weather preferences of all things have been openly mocked. Herd mentality, blind conformism, emotional instability, ad hominem attacks are all commonplace. I think I liked the larger and more anonymous format at City-Data better, all things considered. I feel as though I fall into neither of your categories. I generally agree with many (75%) fit into those categories, but a fair amount don't.
I much prefer this forum - at least this forum has free speech and isn't ruled by a dumb fuck narcissist in Idaho.

Even so, all of those controversial topics could be interesting discussions: all the ways we can confirm the Earth is indeed round; who or what is flying around in our skies at superhuman speeds or is it all a hoax; who built those mysterious, sometimes surprisingly advanced ruins all over the earth - is it possible they were lost pre ice age civilizations; what effects does caffeine have on the brain and how does it compare to other stimulants; just how lethal is the coronavirus and is it possible the countermeasures have been a giant overreaction, etc. All of them killed by "lol shut up moron." What is the point of this forum?
We know how the pyramids, Stonehenge and Nazca lines were constructed. It's actually quite straightforward. And as there are absolutely no proof of ancients astronauts, it's pretty pointless to debate, just like debating if God exists or not.

Nobody knows exactly how the pyramids were built - allegedly in 20 years no less -, there are competing theories even in the mainstream. Polygonal masonry and perfect, machined looking stone artifacts are still very much a mystery and they're all over the globe. I wouldn't mind a discussion but the forum simply won't allow it. I think it's just the wrong audience but the controversies subforum may as well be deleted at this point, there's no such thing here.

Eh, I don't know about all that. A lot of your opinions don't come across as sincere, and seem like they're mostly for shock value. And you have said some pretty nasty things to certain posters on here (like when you told Razza that him mourning his dog is stupid because they're just a dog) which is quite the shitty thing to say to someone. I don't think it's wise or sincere to play victim here. And if you think all this stuff about the forum, stop giving yourself such a hard life and delete yourself. You and I have had good weather discussions before, and I'm probably one of the people on here who has argued with you the least, and I don't think you should leave the forum personally. But when 98% of a forum says the forum isn't very toxic, and one person says it is, maybe the common denominator is them. I do admit I was too harsh on Razza but fortunately he's returned - only to start taking passive aggressive jabs again. I make no other apologies though and all my opinions are sincere.
Notice what happens when I express an unpopular but informed and sincere opinion, e.g. that the Swedish approach may be correct, we shouldn't lock down the world and the economic consequences are likely already more severe than the virus itself. Do people debate and offer counterpoints as to why they disagree? No, I'm immediately a sociopath who wants everyone's grandparents to die, only say these horrible things so I look bold and edgy, am a smug and disrespectful asshole just for the sake of it, etc. Call it playing the victim if you want but it's like wearing a MAGA hat at feminist march here all day every day. I'm a little tired of it and maybe you're right, we're just not a good fit and maybe it'd be a good idea to return to City-Data or leave altogether to give us all a break.
I think you're playing the victim a bit too much in regards to recent debates. You're decrying an overall lack of debate, yet you often make zero effort to engage in debate. You have a consistent pattern of posting something with of your own commentary, ignoring all responses to that post (even when offering reasonable counterpoints in a civil manner), and then returning to post something unrelated. If you're so sure of your opinions, why do you repeatedly refuse to defend them?

If he wanted a civil debate, labeling those who disagree with him "brainwashed cuck soy boys" isn't a good way to start. In usually reply civilly, even though to be honest your "coronavirus is just the flu" claims came off as rather dumb to me, I responded with evidence pointing the flaws I perceived, but got no response. Suggested you're not that interested in debating.

Depends on who you are and what your agenda is. Chat shit, get banged. Having a break every now and then does me no harm, we can pile on each other sometimes but in the end it's always best to leave bygones as bygones. I'll give it a 3.

I'd say that it's a 2.5. Of course, toxicity can't be completely avoided in a free-speech forum, but certain shoutbox discussions, such as politics can get toxic.

I rated it a 1/2 but then I tend to stay out of political/heated discussions. It's not as bad as it used to be.

3.5 or so (voted 3) - a lot of politics goes on in the shoutbox and it can get fucking ugly. Stay out of political discussions and it's generally fine (though I know I still have a few people who won't put things from 3-4 years ago in the past and move on), but there are some people on here who seem to like to argue.

Yeah it's a 2 now. You get the odd heated discussion but it's far better than it used to be.

Changed to a 5 on the poll
Especially the dreadful "meme culture" on hereโฆyou know, the one which got one of our few logical and actually literate members banned (Joe).

Changed to a 5 on the poll Especially the dreadful "meme culture" on hereโฆyou know, the one which got one of our few logical and actually literate members banned (Joe). Your version of events is slightly off. Joe deleted over 1,000 posts, expressed a desire to slit a 16 year old's throat, and then self-deleted. That's not how a logical adult conducts himself.
