What Podcasts are you listening to at the moment?
I generally listen to comedy/nonsense podcasts or sports podcasts.
TOFOP
An aussie comedian (Wil) and an australia actor (Charlie) who have been best mates for decades spend an hour each week rambling, laughing and going on random tangents with no real aim. It's also one of the older podcasts having started in 2010 or so.
Running Gags/Staples of the show:
- They usually fixate on a popular actor, talk about their movies and career whilst also making heaps of stupid hypotheticals about them; most recently they've focussed on Keanu Reeves and Dwayne Johnson.
- Hypothetical businesses/movies/tv shows that are ultimately full of flaws.
- Talking about Batman
- Talking about robots taking over the world.
Best Episodes:
I'd recommend Episode 288 (this week's episode), most of it revolves around a Christmas Carol-esque story about an aging Dwayne Johnson being visited by all of the previous versions of himself; it's very stupid but could also work as a movie.
Episode 218: the opening of the epic "Bin Saga" in which Charlie (the actor) finds that his bin has gone missing; this results in like 4-5 episodes of absolute chaos and great stories as he explores his neighbourhood trying to find his bin.
The Weekly Planet
Two mates (James and Maso) talk about comic book movies, tv shows and other random shit. The first half of each podcast is a "news" section which mainly devolves into runnings gags, fast banter and some actual information. One of my personal favourites.
Running Gags:
- James using "as a father" or "as a travelled man" to get his way in arguments.
- Really bad puns
- James' kid interrupting the podcat
Best Episodes:
Episode 208: they review Geostorm, James goes on a 20-30 minute rant about how much he hates Geostorm; it's a terrific episode.
Any of their "best of" episodes where they collate the best clips of each year.
The Football Ramble
A classic Football podcast, started sometime in 2006 or 2007. 4 blokes who discuss football 2 times every week, if you like English/European football I highly recommend it.
Running Gags:
- One of the guys makes all the jingles for the email section of the podcast; always results in stupidity.
- Too much talk about Sven Goren Erikson.
