Any idea what the usual sunspots recorded in May? (Eastbourne, southsea etc) If London recorded 310 hours surely the coastal figures will be higher than that as they always seem to be I only know what it says on here even though it doesn't cover everywhere. www.met.reading.ac.uk/~brugge/PREV.htmlHighest on there is Bournemouth at 339.5 (!!!), plus a few places over 300 as far north as North Wales. Some VERY impressive figures out there, May 2018 was actually sunnier where I live but for much of the country you're probably looking at either record highs or the sunniest month in decades.

May 2020 ended up being surprisingly average in Saskatoon. The monthly mean and precipitation totals were almost exactly average while the highs were slightly above and lows slightly below. Despite the precipitation totals being normal, it was all concentrated into a handful of days with the rest of the month being totally dry. Sunshine stats aren't out yet but probably ended up being a bit above average. We had one good dumping of snow in the second week of the month, which was followed by several chilly days, and the nights started off quite cold in the first half but ended up warming up significantly afterwards. We also got a couple good thunderstorms. Overall a decent month. Stats: Average high: 18.7C (normal: 18.2C) Average low: 3.5C (normal: 4.1C) Mean temperature: 11.1C (normal: 11.2C) Warmest high: 30.4C (May 31st) Warmest low: 12.1C (May 26th) Coldest high: 5.9C (May 9th) Coldest low: -5.5C (May 15th) Precipitation total: 42.1mm (normal: 43.0mm) Precipitation days: 6 (normal: 9.5)

That is pretty impressive.. More like a Mediterranean month! everyone everywhere looks so brown as well but I guess a lot of people aren’t working at the moment too. I sit outside in the garden with my laptop a lot of the time as well haha

I don't know what reference period they are using on there, but 308.6 hours is not 175% of average at Heathrow, it is 155%. The 81-10 average for May is 198.5 hours.

Portland May 2020 SummaryA warm May, mainly because of two heat spikes, although it seemed cloudier than average. Roughly average precip.

May 2020 has been the coldest May in Latvia since 1999. The negative anomaly was more than 3 degrees Celsius in Riga. It was also drier than normal in Riga and most of Latvia, wetter than normal in the East:

Sama, coldest since 1999. Everyone should feel sorry for us. However, May was wetter than normal here, which I don't think is a bad thing. Our springs are too dry.

I've probably already spent more time out in the sunshine this year than the whole of last year!

Weirdest month of May in my 20 years living in the Toronto area. Toronto saw both its second coldest May low in history and second coldest May daytime high in history. After the polar vortex's lengthy visit, we had one week of spring weather, then we fast forwarded straight into summer before cooling down last weekend.
Average High: 17.3C Average Low: 6.8C
Maximum High: 31.0C (May 26) Minimum Low: -4.7C (May 9) (!!!)
5 Hottest Days (By Daytime High): 1. 31.0C (May 26) 2. 30.3C (May 25) 3. 28.4C (May 27) 4. 25.9C (May 24) 5. 25.7C (May 29)
5 Coldest Days (By Lowest Daytime High): 1. 4.8C (May 8) 2. 6.8C (May 9) 3. 7.8C (May 11) 4. 8.2C (May 10) 5. 8.6C (May 12)
Total Precipitation: 43.2mm Total Rain: 40.0mm Total Snow: 3.2cm (!!!)

May started off cool. The coldest day was the 8th, which was 41/32 (5/0) with wind, rain, and a bit of snow during the day. The next morning had the first May freeze since 2004. Most of the rain came on the 17th when 2.99 inches (75mm) fell. The rain was not from an intense storm like most heavy rainfall is here. It just rained steadily for the entire day. The next two days were cool with drizzle and some light rain as well. Unlike most of the month, the last 10 days were mostly above average, the warmest being an 83/69 day on the 27th. (28/21C). This brought the month back to average, only 0.7F below normal. Rainfall was 1.5 times the normal amount but rainy days were slightly below. Oddly, there was no thunder recorded. I swear there was some thunder this month.

Colder highs and less sun than April. Lows are 1.7 °C colder than the 81-10 average. I think Frankfurt has never recorded two consecutive months above 300 sunshine hours.

Average highs slightly below average, the second month in a row that's happened. The first half of the month was very warm, but the second half has been wet and cool.

May in Malta came in above average with minimum temperatures the largest anomaly. The month had a heat spell towards the middle when a plume of very hot air from north Africa reached up into the central Mediterranean. Temperatures on the 14th reached 34C at Selmun & on the 16th 35C at Dingli, here the temperature also stayed at 32C until midnight, very unusual for this early in the season. The end of the month saw cooler air plunge down from central & eastern Europe, giving below average temperatures & also the coldest minimum of the whole month, this cooler air also caused instability in the atmosphere & produced an un-forecast thunderstorm on the 27th that gave torrential rain, causing flash flooding. Rain also occurred on the 29th (trace amount) & 30th, these couple of days of rain produced nearly 4 x the average rainfall for May, making rainfall ultimately well above average. Sunshine was slightly below average, but some days which were essentially sunny, but hazy, recorded very few hours from the airport's CS recorder. Stats from my PWS in St. Paul's Bay Av. Mx: 25.5C (+0.1C) Av. Mn: 19.9C (+1.7C) Mean : 22.7C (+0.8C) Highest Max: 30.8C (14th) Lowest Min : 15.8C (28th) Lowest Max : 22.7C (7th) Highest Min : 23.9C (17th) Rainfall: 35.3mm (384%) Days with Rain: 3 Days with Thunder: 1 Sunshine: 287.0hrs (93%) Max UV: 11.0 (16th) Min UV : 8.2 (1st)

Slightly cooler and drier than average; no major thunderstorms. It got to 95F/35C earlier than usual, and it got a bit chilly mid-month, but 'twas a boring month overall. The Norman station isn't online for some reason.
