Gay 2020 CrummaryAnglers Reach PWS: Owing to the positive AAO for most of the month (up to +2 on the index), there was only a single proper cold front this May, at the beginning of the month—which gave me a max temp of *1.8° C on the 01. Very little rainfall, and likewise pitiful snowfall…the ECL later in the month didn't give me anything apart from dry, useless clouds and frequent drizzle throughout the month (hence the total precip > precip days ratio). Anomalies (BoM)Cabramurra SMHEA AWS:Mean Maximum = 7.2° C (–1.4° C) Mean Minimum = 1.7° C (–1.1° C) Precipitation = 63.4 mm (–29.5 mm) Hunters Hill:Mean Maximum = 10.9° C (–1.1° C) Mean Minimum = 4.5° C (–1.0° C) Precipitation = 82.0 mm (–17.7 mm) ^It's also worth noting that Hunters Hill had a 0.6° / 3.2° C day with 15.4 mm on the 01, followed by 0.6° / 4.3° C and 37.2 mm on the 02; so one could estimate up to around 20 cm of snowfall for those two days, which is impressive for 981 m. Victoria scored big-time with that snow event. *Erroneously read 0.4° C on my previous report for 01 May (reset glitch). Now corrected to 1.8° C.

A very hot month - mean temp 31.3 C, the warmest equal month (with Apr last year) since at least Oct 2016 (when online records began). I was happy to spend this month in air conditioned comfort at home (due to COVID). Also a very dry month - the rainfall total wasn't too much below average but over 80% of it fell over the last three days. May is usually the wettest month of the year and coincides with the start of the monsoon season, but the monsoon was delayed this year.
Bangkok, Bang Na agromet. site -------------------------------------
Mean high: 35.7 C Mean low: 28.0 C
Max high: 37.7 C Max low: 30.2 C
Min high: 31.9 C Min low: 23.1 C
Rain: 188 mm Rain days > 1mm: 7 Highest 24 hr rainfall: 68 mm
Edit: unsure of sunshine hours, but it wouldn't surprise me if we hit 300 hrs this month, or close to it.

I noticed that the last month I forgot to plot and post the April data, so here there are both the April and the May quick summaries: Grenoble: Back to the village in Italy: I haven't made serious comparison with the historical averages, but both months in both places evidently look warmer than usual, and April in particular looks drier as well.

Pretty much a continuation of the weather we've had since mid-March, warm days, lots of sun and almost no rain. The low of -2.0C on the 14th was the coldest on record so late in the year and then the high of 25.9C less than a week later was only a fraction off the May record. Average high: 16.1C (+1.8C) Average: 11.2C (+1.1C) Average low: 6.2C (+0.3C) Sunshine: 234 hours (+36%) Rainfall: 7.8 mm (-88%)

I will upload the wiki box when I get home in July, but here are the preliminary figures for May 2020
Avg max: 21.1c Mean: 15.1c Avg min: 9.1c
Abs max: 27.8c Abs min: 2.3c
Precipitation: 2.0mm Rain days: 1
Sunshine: 308.6 hours
An almost carbon copy of May 1989. It was the 4th warmest, the driest, 2nd sunniest May on record. It was also the 2nd sunniest month on record.
The sunshine total ensures that spring 2020 narrowly overtakes 1990 as the sunniest spring on record, by 4 hours.

May Summary 2020 May was an interesting month, with a strong frontal system from the 4th-7th that heralded an early and wet start to winter...which did not eventuate and instead lead to 16 rainless, cloudless days in a row (okay that's a slight lie there was 1 partly cloudy day ). This extended dry spell was dominated by warmth from the 12th-15th and cooler yet sunny days 16th-21st. We had a brief warm spell on the 22nd and 23rd with some nice late Spring weather before a series of strong fronts arrived the 24th-29th. That period had 88.2mm fall at Jandakot! Overall although it was dominated by sunny weather and I would remember it as a sunny month; it had fairly average sun, slightly cooler than average and wet. Jandakot: Highest Max: 28.5C (3rd) Mean Max: 21.8C (-0.2C) Lowest Max: 16.3C (6th) Monthly Anomaly: -0.25C Highest Min: 17.6C (4th) Mean Min: 9.0C (-0.3C) Lowest Min: 1.7C (19th) Rain: 123.4mm lovely number (117.7% of average 104.8mm) Rain Days: 11 (-1.0) Sun Hours: 216.2 Sun hours/day: 7.0 (+0.1 hours/day) Perth Metro: Highest Max: 28.9C (3rd) Mean Max: 22.0C (-0.3C) Lowest Max: 16.9C (6th) Monthly Anomaly: -0.6C Highest Min: 16.9C (4th) Mean Min: 9.6C (-0.9C) Lowest Min: 4.6C (19th and 21st) Rain: 111.6mm (128.5% of average 86.8mm) Rain Days: 12 (+0.8 days) Sun Hours: 216.2mm Sun/day: 7.0 (+0.1 hours/day)

May 2020 - Cold then warm then average. First month in over a year with BELOW NORMAL PRECIP more snow than normal, but overall not too bad of a month. Started off with record cold, ended up a good bit below average but nothing record level like April was.

First non-cold month of the year here. And it was warmer here than YVR, with max temps reaching ~26C. But those lows really jumped up from April. Unfortunately, EC fucked up and there are quite a few missing days this month in Charlottetown. Close enough though I guess.

Motueka NZ Average maximum: 17.2C (+1.1C) Average minimum: 3.9C (-0.4C) Range: -0.9C/22.7C Rainfall: 108mm (-3mm) Rain days>1mm : 5 days (-2 days) Sunshine: 181 hours (-6hrs) Overall, pretty average. 108mm over 5 rain days suggests quite heavy rain. Compare that to YVR's ~60mm over 18 days this past month. That was usually not drizzle though but rather sporadic showers that only lasted a short time. But we did have drizzle occasionally.

Any idea what the usual sunspots recorded in May? (Eastbourne, southsea etc) If London recorded 310 hours surely the coastal figures will be higher than that as they always seem to be
