1. Mariehamn - a warm-summer humid continental climate (Dfb) 2. Flores Island - a humid subtropical climate (Cfa) Both are close to Cfb in Koppen classification. Which of them do you consider more similar to typical "temperate oceanic" climate? In my opinion, Mariehamn is closer than Flores is, because it at least has an ocean-influenced temperate climate with mild summers and chilly winters, not unlike most "temperate oceanics", while Flores is unevitably subtropical and avoids, for example, any winter cold..

I think Mariehamn. Flores Island is too warm for me to think of temperate. Mariehamn has oceanic influences and is temperate even if it's not a true oceanic climate.

Flores Island
Not even remotely a contest; in fact, it is an insult to even so much as hint at Mariehman bearing any semblance to a "temperate" climate. Mariehamn is full-blown subpolar, and it also lay at 60Β° Nβa very high latitude, at which the dominant weather systems are of a more polar nature (i.e. straddling the Ferrel Cell).

Flores Island by far. Itβs exactly what comes to mind when I imagine temperate oceanic, imo that means a very mild, wet oceanic climate like Flores Island.
Mariehamm is just a moderate hemiboreal climate. Not an oceanic climate and certainly not temperate.

Flores is borderline subtropical, Mariehamm is borderline subarctic. Tough call, but I'll go with Flores. Mariehamm has winters too cold for a temperate oceanic climate whereas Flores' summers aren't that hot.

Mariehamm is effectively a continental/interior climate like Tampere, but one that is moderated by the Baltic, quite different from truly oceanic climates like Bergen at that latitude in terms of its steering dynamics while Flores is similar to a milder (and cloudier) version of Northern Portugal/Galicia.

Mariehamn is pretty crap. If you like mild winters it's a bit better than on the continent, but in terms of length of the growing season it gets hardly any benefit.
Mariehamn Airport has many months missing, so I'll have to use nearby Jomala Jomalaby. Their next normal means will be in winter:
Dec: 0.4C (4 months below -3C) Jan: -1.3C (5 months below -3C) Feb: -2.3C (12 months below -3C)
It seems that Mariehamn has one continental month; February.
For the question itself, I would say Mariehamn is oceanic with strong continental influences, while Flores is subtropical with strong oceanic influences. Therefore I'd say they are both equally oceanic, just on the opposite side of the spectrum.

Flores Island definitely feels closer, in my opinion.

Flores Island without a doubt. Nothing temperate about Mariehamn's winters.
