Those places might have the monthly variation, but they lack day-to-day swings (as far as I know). They have large day to day swings too. The west coast can go from highs in the 100s one day to highs in the 60s/70s the next. Not sure about how much day to day variation Western Europe gets but they certainly get a lot of variation within a month and can have get extreme heatwaves.

Western Europe can definitely get day to day swings in summer. Here's last July...
25th: 37.9c 27th: 20.3c 29th: 26.2c 30th: 19.9c
