None of the above. It will be a dry, warm and sunny month. That isn't an option in the poll.

That isn't an option in the poll. I'm not the problem, the poll is August won't be warm, dry and sunny, so there is nothing wrong with the poll.

Severe frosts occurred every week; August 7th and 8th snow fell, and it was so cold that crops were cut down, even freezing the roots ... In the early Autumn when corn was in the milk it was so thoroughly frozen that it never ripened and was scarcely worth harvesting. Breadstuffs were scarce and prices high and the poorer class of people were often in straits for want of food. It must be remembered that the granaries of the great west had not then been opened to us by railroad communication, and people were obliged to rely upon their own resources or upon others in their immediate locality.
It is now the middle of August, and we have not yet had what could properly be called summer. Easterly winds have prevailed for nearly three months past ... the sun during that time has generally been obscured and the sky overcast with clouds; the air has been damp and uncomfortable, and frequently so chilling as to render the fireside a desirable retreat.
-B87 "August 2020: The Year Without a Summer"
I had a dream, which was not all a dream.
The bright sun was extinguish'd, and the stars
Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
Rayless, and pathless, and the icy earth
Swung blind and blackening in the moonless air;
Morn came and wentβand came, and brought no day
- A Londoner's poem from August 2020

Seems fairly accurate for July 2020 so far.

How about the 15 Augusts before those, from 1990-2004? It's like being in a completely different climate. 1990: 26.0c / 14.7c / 26.8mm / 249.3 hrs 1991: 24.1c / 14.4c / 26.0mm / 241.7 hrs 1992: 21.7c / 13.6c / 84.7mm / 149.2 hrs 1993: 21.6c / 11.7c / 23.8mm / 219.4 hrs 1994: 23.0c / 13.8c / 32.2mm / 180.9 hrs 1995: 27.0c / 15.6c / 0.3mm / 295.3 hrs 1996: 23.1c / 13.4c / 45.8mm / 217.6 hrs 1997: 25.8c / 16.6c / 70.5mm / 194.2 hrs 1998: 23.5c / 12.7c / 16.6mm / 262.6 hrs 1999: 22.8c / 14.0c / 124.8mm / 199.8 hrs 2000: 23.2c / 14.0c / 32.3mm / 211.4 hrs 2001: 23.5c / 14.5c / 79.0mm / 210.9 hrs 2002: 23.3c / 14.7c / 36.3mm / 190.4 hrs 2003: 26.4c / 15.7c / 10.4mm / 255.3 hrs 2004: 23.8c / 15.1c / 107.8mm / 213.3 hrs Check out that rarity in 1993, a cold August that was dry and sunny.

An interesting pattern for Motueka, is that the colder February is, the more likely it is that March will be warmer. You'd bet on a cool and cloudy August for 2020 though, looking at the last 15 years?

If anyone were interested in my opinion now, I would not share op's pessimism about the cool August. July has been 0.9c cooler than the London average, so claims a well-known Russian source. And it is logical to assume that the two below average months do not follow each other. Rainfall may be an issue, as July has been drier than average.

Rainfall may be an issue? July will probably end up only slightly drier than average, after a very wet June. Long range forecasts are showing no sign of anything settled in the first half of August.

Ok. As for the temperature, I in fact wanted to say that it is not usually the case that two consecutive months are below average. In fact, it happens, for example, here this year both april and may were cooler than average; 2017 was especially bad here where four months from april to july were with below average temperatures.

In 2013 we had a few consecutive below average temp months - January, February, March, April, May, June, as well as September and November.

So as I will be out of the country for the whole of August, it currently looks like shaping up to be one of the warmest on record, with barely any precipitation and above average sun.

Cooler, cloudier, and wetter than normal, with a 100% chance of coronavirus.

I told you it would be hot, dry and sunny. It might not end up dry and sunny, but it'll definitely be warmer than average.
