Taipei is quite gloomy relative to the south of Taiwan, with British-Isles level sunshine totals (1400 hrs) vs 2200 hrs: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaohsiung#Climate, so worse if you prefer sunshine Sofia is at altitude and cold compared to the rest of Bulgaria (Plovdiv, Burgas, Varna)-- worse if you prefer warmth:

On the Australian mainland, Canberra. Cold summer nights, inadequete summer highs. Most of the year is cold. The only other contender on the mainland for a worse climate is Melbourne.

No way is Canberra the worst climate in the country, even if you're keeping to the mainland. If you're a heat lover there are definitely worse climates.
I'd go with La Paz in Bolivia, endless 14C is suicide weather. Bolivia probably has a bunch of these climates but it's still very pretty bad.

Not national capitals but for US state capitals, Juneau and Phoenix are close to the worst in their states. Salem and Olympia arenโt quite the worst but are both awful climates in states with plenty of good climates.

I'n not sure if the question is asking for comparisons to other capitals in nations which have them, or if the national capital itself is the worst climate of any town or location in its respective country.

Ahk. Well the worst state capital in terms of weather would be Hobart, and then if you restrict to the mainland then Melbourne. Personally I'd put Darwin second, fuck that shit.

Athens is in the hottest and driest part of the country. Thessaloniki and Patras are much better, even Larissa and Heraklion are slightly better. Not to mention islands like Corfu.

Defo Darwin for AU. Absolutely nothing going for it, apart from the odd TC.
From best to worst (top to bottom), my ranking goes as follows:
I. Adelaide
II. Canberra
III. Melbourne
IV. Hobart
V. Perth
VI. Sydney
VII. Brisbane
VIII. Darwin

Wellington, New Zealand. Absolutely putrid climate. It's the windiest city in the world by some measures (mean wind speed 29 kph), has summer highs barely over 20 C and a record high of barely 30 C. Horrible place.

I'd say Iqaluit has by far the worst climate out of the Canadian provincial/territorial capitals.

Bangkok is pretty worst even among other regions of tropical climates. To be fair Bangkok is a massive UHI.
