These are 2 places (a city and a town as far as I know) in Siberia with weirdly similar names, despite being located very far from each other.. For me, Abakan is way better, since it has warmer summers (Magadan's summers are pathetic) and more variation overall, though it still gets only a C+. Magadan is C with barely existing summers and really boring winters.. Precipitation is better in Magadan though, since it's winters probably get more snow and stuff..

Abakan for having summers. Magadan is horrible, even for the region. Go inland a few km and it will be much warmer in summer. permianartist is there any data for Abaza (south of Abakan) ? Those mountains are much wetter than Abakan with very lush forests.

Akaban. You get a freezing ass winter either way so I'd prefer a bit of warmth to make up for it in the summer months.

Akaban, but concerned there is a lack of snow. ^^Same as Speagles84. Even if it gets very little snow, I would hate the lack of summer in Magadan. Abakan has much better summers and matches with some places in the prairies of US and Canada. North America is generally a few degrees less continental and wetter. The closest spot is between Grand Forks and Winnipeg. Roseau, MinnesotaWinnipeg, Manitoba a bit milder in summer, noticeably wetter than Abakan Estevan, Saskatchewan milder winters, not quite as wet By the time you go west enough to have similar rainfall to Abakan, it's much milder in winter. Val Marie or Havre.

Magadan’s crummer temps are bad enough before you realize it gets 20 days of drizzle per summer month.
Akaban no contest.

It can always be worse. Magadan would win 100-0 against Anadyr.

Winters in both climates are horrible, so I'll go for Abakan for its ability to provide actual warmth during certain periods.
