I took the daily averages for Milwaukee and added or removed lag. Which one do you prefer? How much lag do you want, if any? A change of 14 days means roughly 5F/3C change in spring and fall temps for me. A change of 28 days in each direction should be enough but if you want even more I can make a box for you.
Full Milwaukee weatherbox: Wiki Link. The coldest days average 29/15 (-2/-9) from January 11 to 24. The warmest days average 80/64 (28/18) from July 11 to August 4. Screenshot of wiki box in spoiler. 28 day lead14 day leadStandard, no change 14 day lag 28 day lag I also made some boxes with warmer spring or cooler fall. These are not an option in the poll because they change the annual average temperatures. It adds an extra 14 days to peak summer or winter. Warmer spring: I removed the coldest 14 days of winter, shifted spring forward 14 days, and added 14 more days of peak summer. The coldest stretch is now 29/16 from January 1-16, and the warmest is 80/64 from June 27 - August 4. Summer is noticeably longer and winter is mostly December and January now. Colder fall: I removed the warmest 14 days of summer, shifted fall forward 14 days, and added 14 more days of peak winter. The coldest stretch is now 29/15 from December 28 to January 24, and the warmest is 80/64 from July 11-21. A cooler climate with a longer winter.

For me, I pick 14 day lead. Milwaukee would be better with slightly less lag. Warmer springs, cooler fall weather. The cool days in early June are now in spring where they belong. Fall colors start sooner and December has more consistent snow cover to match the low sun angle.
My favorite box of all of these is the one with a colder fall - I prefer even colder but it would be an improvement.

I'll take the standard (0) pattern; I don't want much difference between early and late winter/summer, and I always want mid winter/mid summer to be the coldest and hottest months respectively.

28 day lead looks nice, as does 'colder fall'.

I think the normal Milwaukee has good enough of a lag. While the 14 day lead has better springs, the cooldown in autumn is way too rapid.

14 day lead for the better springs. Best climate would be a lead in winter and a lag in summer.

Went with normal. I like summer lags but the spring is way too cold.

Warmer spring is the best one, otherwise I’d go with standard.

Think Standard Milwaukee has the right amount of seasonal lag, late spring and June become too chilly with too much lag and the fall cooldown is too stark with the 14 day lead. Prefer late winter to be colder than earlier in the season as it is brighter and the days are longer, which makes it more tolerable to me. Warmer autumn would be my choice if we are adjusting transition seasons. Milwaukee's fall with the 14 day lag becomes close to my ideal.

Warmer spring is the best one, otherwise I’d go with standard. Same for me.

I think I'll go with the one with the warmer spring ; barring that, probably the 14-day lag; seems to resolve the best in the table and give a consistent three-month lukewarm period - though Milwaukee's summers are pretty weak anyway no matter how you slice and dice it.

No lag or lead. Both aren't good.

28 day lead for sure.
I hate warm falls and cold springs. By March its nice to warm up a bit, and if its October FFS no warmth please

I chose normal Milwaukee. 28 day lead the peak of winter is too early (same for 14 day lead) and the lags have way too laggy of summers and too warm of falls. My ideal would be a combination of seasonal lag in winter and seasonal lead in summer.

Ignoring realistic weather patterns, I prefer a 14-day lead because I'm getting tired of certain weather by February/August and waiting for a nice refresh.

14 day lead is the best one, makes the most even annual temp range
