October has started with ... haze. It should have been a sunny day, but a lot of dust and smoke has come with the east wind, from wildfires in Russia. Lof of 9C and high of 18C in Riga.
Interesting. Absolutely nothing here.

Thick smoke came back this afternoon. It was the “worst” since Labor Day and probably the 4th or 5th thickest I’ve seen it. It had a thick purplish layer with a clear divide against the blue sky to the east and blotted out the sun again. We had a small amount of smoke yesterday evening, giving us a pretty sunset. Then we got more smoke this morning. But it's cleared up since then.

I think this is impressive as well, although the BoM forecast lists snow.

Good rainfall here today, with almost 30 mm from storm Alex @ Montsouris. Pressure went down to almost 985 mbar! I was toying with the idea of spending the weekend on the Riviera as I haven't been there since February. It looks like it was a good idea to stay in Paree. Lots of locales a few dozen km north of Nice got hammered today, with daily tallies around 400 mm. 547 mm (21.5") so far in Mons. Gulf of Genoa SSTs: Ligtning activity This guy drives on a narrow road squeezed between a river and high cliffs while there's a red warning for destructive storms. Putain de merde ! The Var river (that flows into the sea next to Nice's airport) multiplied its flow by 100, to a point that it carried 3× as much water per second as the much bigger Rhône river. I've driven on this bridge countless times and there's always a tiny stream of water gently flowing among pebbles. Not today: Horrible story. Guy says there was an old couple waving their hands in this house. Moments after the vid it collapsed. House in its normal state... Another collapsing house Looks like another catastrophic event almost 5 years after the October 3, 2015 storm I experienced back when I was living there. But this time further from the sea. About a dozen people are missing.

^Alice Springs' forecast looks especially striking with the WZ colours. Extreme forecast indeed, but why does it give the UV index as "Extreme" on a cloudy day? Is the UV index the value for a clear sky?
After a few days in the 30s, low teens and rain must feel like the arctic.
rozenn I can't see some of your links.

Why don't they use avertissement or something?

What caused the explosion in the first quoted tweet? Warning doesn't sound like a very French word. Why don't they use avertissement or something? The poser supply goes through the bridge I guess. Or maybe it's gas? As for "warnings" in lieu of "feux de détresse" as it's shorter. It means that the guy let his car blinkers on.
