Not sure if this applies to this thread, but the vegetation/ecoregion for the Sydney region is just hilarious: So the almost steppe-like Penrith in Sydney's Cumberland Plain, a place that's reached almost 49C, is within the temperate forest zone? Lmao

From the trees here I find Banyan the most impressive. This isn't even the largest I've seen though others are hard to catch in a single photo lol

Yeah tsrlife red spruce is very good. Thanks for reminding me to germinate my red/black spruce hybrid seeds. Check this Tarantula relative that only lives in the high elevations of the southern app mountains! It lives amongst the spruce-fir forests

Well, if we are talking about Spruce trees, then I suppose we shouldn't ignore the Sitka Spruce native to the PNW, it is the largest Spruce species in the world, 5th largest conifer and 3rd tallest conifer species in the world. The tallest specimen is found in Carmanah Walbran Provincial Park on Vancouver Island, BC and is 96 m (315 ft) tall, making it the tallest tree in Canada. The largest specimen is found in the Quinault rainforest on the Olympic Peninsula in WA with a trunk volume of 346 m3 (12,200 cu ft), a height of 74.6 m (244 ft 9 in), and a dbh of 4.4 m (14 ft 5 in).

I discovered a new plant species that was previously unknown from my county today, longleaf milkweed (Asclepias longifolia): www.inaturalist.org/observations/145529412My goal since this past summer is to observe every plant species native to my county. I have seen just under 700 species out of about 900 to 950 total. Over 50 of those were not known to occur here before I found them.

I was gonna say umbrella tree (Heptapleurum actinophyllum) for the last one. First palm is something in Chamaedorea, idk enough to say which species.

I would say the same thing ^^ those Chamaedorea Seifrizii are reasonably cold tolerant. I gave one to my mother in Camden NSW about 25 years ago.... it has thrived despite +40c summers and frosty winters.

Umbrella trees can be a bit of a pest plant in my climate.... having said that, I like 'em for their bird attracting qualities when they flower... the nectar loving avian species love their flowers, in fact, get a bit pissy when over indulging.... rainbow lorrikeets and honeyeaters love 'em ! Some say the root systems are invasive, but I've never had an issue in that respect. This pic is one of my ones that has just grown from a bird dropped seed.
