There's a 20% chance of scattered snow showers for here tomorrow, but I doubt we'll see anything.

Blocking over the North Atlantic starting today. Unfortunately the high pressure plume is headed towards Greenland, so means maritime air for western Europe, but least from polar origin for the westernmost parts. Ireland and the UK might get interesting weather in the coming days, for the rest of Europe the through is too western to bring any significant wintry weather. Snow showers over parts of Normandy for Christmas eve. No white Christmas here though! looks like our Christmas storm is over northern Labrador in that image. So, trough too far to the west = too far away from Russia/eastern Europe to pull in truly cold air?

High was 53 (12 c) for Christmas Eve. It was dry into the afternoon which was a nice surprise.
It turned rainy about 4 PM and 0.51β (13 mm) fell as of midnight.
Temps dropped quickly but have plateaued at 37 (3 c) the last few hours. Rain is supposed to change to sleet/freezing rain in a few hours and then eventually snow.

Merry Christmas from Riga! There has been some sleet in Riga on Christmas Eve. There is no snow on the ground, as it has stayed above freezing. 2C in Riga this morning.

Yes, if you follow the isobars, the flow comes from between Svalbard and Iceland, so despite the cold 500 mbar air from this small piece of polar vortex (below -30Β°C), the 850 mbar and surface layers are quite mild (respectively around -5Β°C and above freezing) from flying above the mild North Atlantic waters. Western Europe is a sorry place for cold lovers, the air must come from the east or northeast for it to stay cold all the way through its journey.

There an extremely small remnant of snow from a now-melted snow pile left in the parking lot outside my window this morning! Hey, snow is snow!
EDIT: having gone outside there are much larger snow piles still around!

Have you ever seen! From the photos it might even get slippery on some roads there (perhaps not the main roads), bet there are no cars with winter tires there.

Some cars might have winter tires as some people frequently go to the mountains. The overwhelming majority obviously doesn't tho.

A cold-core low will usher in Arctic air towards western Europe on Monday. EC is suggesting snowfall at low elevations in much of the UK/France, and down to the Padana Plains of Italy.

If I understanding correctly, looks like the Icelandic is pulling mild air into the northernmost reaches of the arctic causing an unusual temperature spike

Ended up being a brown Christmas. The morning snow never materialized, the rain stopped in the early morning and it was cold and cloudy all day.
There were non accumulating flurries in the afternoon but you couldnβt see them unless you were outside.
It did snow a bit starting at like 10 PM, when we left my grandmotherβs house there was a light dusting...I guess that makes it a white Christmas? I donβt think thatβs enough to count.
