Very mild day in Buenos Aires. After a very windy night and a good thunderstorm in the morning, most of the day was overcast with occasional drizzle and figures in the 19-23C range. Total rainfall was 54 mm.
Some cold in the south of the country, Bariloche was close to get snow, it rained with only 3C. Nice scenery in the nearby higher areas, where snow was present.
The north was quite hot and humid today, with some impressive dew points and heat indexes. Reconquista, Santa Fe province reported 38.0C with a dew point of 26.7C, resulting in a heat index of 51C.
Right now a lot of severe thunderstorms are forming from NW Argentina to N Uruguay and S Brazil.
The first really interesting day of the year, meteorologically speaking.

not much cold in North America; hard for any real cold without a pattern change

This looks promising. Not just one run but it is the ensemble mean which definitely gives it more weight. Taking those lake ice prospects with a grain of salt now. But maybe the icing is enough in the tail end of January...Let’s see.

Yeah, usually the park opens up the ice for walking only after 6” of thickness has formed. I’ve done it before during the polar vortex winters.

We had the coolest temps of the season this morning - 16.4 C at DMK and 17.8 C downtown. Highs around 27-28 C with dewpoints in the single digits at some sites! It legitimately felt too cool for shorts and t-shirts. Many locals had thick jackets on. If skies remain clear we may have some really impressive lows tonight.

How cold did your room get without AC?

A wider look at just how cold parts of Spain were overnight. The lowest AEMET station dropped to -25.4C at Bello in Teruel Province, the -25.2C was at Molina de Aragon, Guadalajara. The city of Teruel itself dropped to -21.0C. Apparently Madrid Cuatro Vientos Airport went down to -13.0C, which breaks its previous record of -11.4C if correct. Madrid University recorded its lowest ever temperature, -10.8C, with records going back to 1972.

Humid and gloomy here today, 73 F (22.8 C) with a 66 F (18.9 C) dew point as of 11 am. Morning low was 61 F (16.1 C) and we're headed up to 77 F (25 C) today.
Forecast gone downgraded a bit, no longer showing 79-80 F (26-27 C) for today and tomorrow, more mid 70s now. Small cold front moving through on Thursday, bigger cold front coming through on Saturday but the cool weather won't last long.

RIP who sadly froze to death in his shack in Altea.

Today's snowfall and slippery conditions were too much for this fire engine:
And for these two buses:
Almost whiteout conditions in Ostrobothnia:
And definitely in Helsinki:
Lol this bus was seriously fucked up. Luckily nobody was seriously injured:

Very thick frost this morning with a low of 14 F/-10 C. Temperature recovered nicely and topped out at 42 F/6 C with sunny skies. Another dry and seasonable day tomorrow before a few milder days with rain chances. Afterwards it goes back to seasonable. Quite a stable, quiet January so far.
