Unexpected sleet already! Hopefully the event is set to overachieve here. Also cooler than expected this afternoon. 38F right now.

Low -4.4C and high -2.9C, overcast. It can always be worse, see St.Petersburg.
And Riga in a few days. FMI has a low of -19C for Riga next Friday, -23C for Turku. The temperatures are very lovely but why I see a weird map here above that shows that the temperatures in Turku and Riga and etc east of Baltic sea will be "above average". Who thinks that -16c and -23c are "above average" temperatures? lol I found such a map:

Yup. Sorry for not believing you. Nobody believes me, it's hard for me to convince others, but when it comes exactly like that, nobody remembers what I said. I am somewhat glad that this huge frost is coming. Schadenfreude. "Enjoy" this frost, all complainers about too mild winters.

I imagine that the number of Covid-19 cases will explode under such "lovely" conditions. Basically, in all other winters, the lower temperatures we had, the more flu cases we had. I suppose it is going to be the same with the virus. I will be very glad if I will be wrong.

I'll promise I won't complain.

Adelaide had a 27.5C low. My low was 21.3C against a 24C forecast, but whatever, the important thing is it managed to stay above 20C

Mix of sleet and snow with some rain here so far with light accumulation. Hopefully a good bit more snow to come. Probably will have some impressive totals to my north.

Didn't get much more after this post. After a few hours of wintry mix (rain, sleet, snow), it became just rain all of a sudden which persisted until the final band of the event came thru. Then sleet mixed in again...

Now, on Saturday those same guys will be in shorts as temps approach 70 F. Y’all get some truly insane swings in winter.

We're getting a significant cool-down in a week or so, with highs going well below average but lows still staying right at or slightly above average. Thankfully by the time that cool-down starts, we'll be at the point in the season where we only have about a month and a half of potential serious cold left, so that's really nice.

Lows in Madrid this morning:
Barajas AP: -9.6°C Ciudad Universitaria: -8.2°C El Retiro: -4.4°C
A bit disappointing I may say. They are all above freezing right now. Let's see what happens tomorrow.

Today's lows. Please note the absolutely atrocious lows in the godforsaken hellholes of La Hague and Ushant.

This looks promising. Not just one run but it is the ensemble mean which definitely gives it more weight.
