High was 57 (14 c) today with sunny skies, felt like spring. While I wouldn’t this to be a normal winter day, I love days like this.
One of the highest diurnals in a while, warmed up from 21 (-6 c).
Tuesday looks like it could make a run at 60 before a nice looking cold snap comes through.

Translation: Frost is causing trouble in the North - A severe situation.Am I the only one who finds it funny that places in the arctic are experiencing serious problems because of frost? Madrid just got half a meter of snow, and arctic Norway is complaining about a little frost.

Today's low of 22°F (–6°C) has been the coldest of the season yet. Today's high should reach 43°F today, with the outside chance of a few snowflakes late tonight as the storm system forms.

Looks like the east coast is going to get hit with a big snowstorm. Asked my parents to prepare for it. Hopefully dad has the snowblower ready to go. It’s after all February in the northeast. Not much snow here though. Maybe 2” at best.

Yeah looking like warm temps will dominate thru the first week of February here... Hopefully colder temps return afterward. Not really as much warmth as had been anticipating. Warm and muggy early this week but the past couple of days had highs in the 50's with a freeze yesterday morning. Warmer today with a high in upper 60's though another front is coming which should bring highs back down to the 50's. Next few weeks looking around average temp-wise right now.

Santiago (Chile) recorded 31.4 mm / 1.22 in the last 18 hours, already the daily highest on record for January. Previous one was 22.4 mm in 1933. Let's remember the January average for the POR 1981-2010 is only 0.4 mm (!)
Meanwhile, a lot of unseasonal snow in the Andes, above 2700/2800 m. Near Las Cuevas (3200 m), the last Argentine village before crossing to Chile through the Mendoza-Santiago route:

-5.0c, light snow at 21:00. Yesterday and tonight it snowed a lot here and there is a lot of snow on the ground, about 16-17 cm here. I add a map, as you can see there is 43 cm of snow in the uplands. Also, a few days ago, the local weather service already published new climate standards as my new Argentine friend Macrelo, who seems to have almost a pathological interest in my weather, has already pointed out. I haven't myself scrutinize these new averages much but as a quick comment I must mention that global warming in my region, at least in the east of the country has been weaker than, for example, in many parts of Western Europe. This means that the gap with Western Europe has widened. This is not news to me of course, because for example, the last five years I have had such a poor and cool summers, at a time when my Western friends have experienced anomalous heat waves. The month of May was even a little warmer in the previous period. This is good news for my "friends". Fortunately, at least there are more hours of sunshine than during the old period although my station is still cloudier than the country's average. The weather is now cold, January will be below average and probably February as well. It is also bad that for the low temperatures it has been atypically very cloudy (because the air pressure has not been high). This trend seems to continue in the coming days. The length of the day is now almost 9 hours and I would have expected at least more sunny hrs. And now, if to bo...ify a bit, it can be said that at least it looks there is no forecast of a 'national ice week' here although there may be some more distant and not that well informed posters from distant american south hemisphere continents who assume that my conditions are here as they are in vostok. Or god knows what they think.

Straight from the latest GFS one week out. If only. We could get quite a bit of snow next Tuesday. It’s forecast to be a snow to rain event though, which sucks.

Beautiful! So much better than grey skies, rain, and brown grass. It is beautiful only if you don't need to go out. And it will stat on the ground for weeks and weeks turning into snowdirt. The only good thing is that this hasn't happened earlier, then this snowdirt would be on the ground for 5 months or so.

Almost nonstop raining here since three days. The only exception was this morning when it was sleet instead of snow.

That's true in a climate that isn't too cold like Riga. In colder climates, such as in Siberia, the snow doesn't get too dirty most of winter and the ground stays pretty white. Worst kind of snow is where it's like wet sand/mud mixture. Very hard to walk on.

My climate is a little more continental than the climate of Riga, but even I don't remember it ever having been on ground for 5 months. It would already be like Kolyma then. It is either cold or thaw in this area, and even in cold winters there are periods when there is no snow. But I agree that there is little beauty in it. Most of that so called beautiful snow is such brown frozen mud.

Saturated soils mean that at every rainfall most of the water runs off instead of soaking in. Rivers are swelling. This barge won't be able to pass the Invalides bridge in Paris (pic from neige95 on Infoclimat):

Fucking jealous of Spain right now: In case the tweet doesn't show up: upper 20s Celsius (low-mid 80s Fahrenheit) from Alicante up to Valencia. It's fucking JANUARY. And I thought my climate was being nice to me by giving me a high of 0'C today.
