Snow totals dialed up in the NYC tri state area. Heaviest band is likely right over NYC. My parents will get 14-18”.

Kinda funny how Spain went from record cold a few weeks back to record warmth now. Boring day weather-wise here today, overnight low was 68 F (20 C) and it's currently 78 F (25.6 C) with a 62 F (16.7 C). Predicted high of 79 F (26.1 C) today. Big cold front coming though! 74/45 (23.3/7.2) predicted tomorrow with AM thunderstorms, and then 62/40 predicted for Tuesday now looking like 30s are becoming a possibility.

Wow, and here I am looking for a high in the 30’s. A strong cold front coming later in the week, and I may finally get lows worthy of a 6a climate zone 🙂🙂🙂

Expecting some big snow here. Current NWS forecast gives us 14" and 23" for the 10th and 90th percentiles of expected snow totals, resp. www.weather.gov/okx/winterWe also have several straight days of Winter Storm Warning and Coastal Flood Advisory in effect. High winds expected. Pretty excited. www.wrh.noaa.gov/map/

We're back to unseasonably mild temperatures for the next couple of days, then plummeting as February rolls around. The 14-day forecast shows lows slightly below average and highs well below average starting this week.
If that happens, February will be on track to be the coldest month of the winter, and this will be the third winter out of the past four where this happens. We seem to have relatively decent conditions up until the end of January and then suddenly all the cold we didn't get before that is concentrated into February.
Not sure what causes this to happen or why it seems to have become the norm over the past few years. On the one hand it's nice to avoid prolonged arctic cold throughout the whole season and to know there's a light at the end of the tunnel just a few weeks ahead, on the other hand it's really annoying to have the coldest period happen at the end of winter when I'm tired of the cold and looking forward to spring.
I hope we'll at least have a decent March and April, because two of the last three winters have seen a horrendously cold start to spring and I'm slightly concerned this may also be becoming the norm here.

New Hampshire can have rather big north -south temperature contrasts. White field to Manchester is 108 miles, 27 degrees difference tonight

NOAA's revised February outlook released today. A big improvement from the January 21 temp outlook, lol.

ral31 so in other words, exactly how I predicted. I've been noticing parallels between this winter and that of 2014-2015 all along: a notably cold fall month followed by a warm start to winter, with the coldest month being February and very little precipitation the whole time.

ral31 are you seeing signs of spring there yet? Spring leaf map shows up north of your area already for budding.

ral31 Damn it, I don’t want a cold February. The wet is a good sign though, if it’s a snowy month it’ll be worth the cold. A cold February here is still better than 95% of Shitchester February’s though and April comes a month early so I can’t really complain. High was 50 (10 c) with sunny skies today. Temps are improving for the cold snap next week but snowfall is still lacking so not much in the way of excitement from it.

ral31 are you seeing signs of spring there yet? Spring leaf map shows up north of your area already for budding. This weekend I saw some small trees with pink blooms (not sure of the name). But they look like they were wilted. Maybe they bloomed during warmer temps earlier this past week, then freezing temps Thursday night damaged them. Most deciduous trees still seem bare. A lot of clover growth lately.

Major winter storm continuing today, storms never merged Upper Level Low still spinning west of the Appalachian mountains (over me) giving more and more snow. Still big coastal storm developed, interesting set up - usually they merge.
