Post your summaries for October 2020 here! This month has been the first below-average month in temperatures since May 2019, with precipitation sum being somewhat below average, which is a bit surprising: Anomalies for Fiumicino Airport: Average high: –1.4°C Mean: –1.5°C Average low: –1.5°C Anomalies for Ciampino Airport: Average high: –1.4°C Mean: –1.3°C Average low: –1.2°C

Sing it with me....There once was a year called 2020 with a month called Cocktober, which was really cocky the gheyhomos on the Australian Fizzer Forum sang its praises while my blood pressure raises for a month full of southerly horseshit to the chocky while my cock blows its sproggy all over the great agglomeration of dripping diarrhea they call Cocktober 2020
There were some hot days but outnumbered to the brim by the gays while the polar gale blows everybody knows the legend of the month of Cocktober 2020 by the diarrhea in which it lays

Melbourne Airport October 2020 Summary:Average max: 19.0°C (-1.0°C) Average mean: 14.0°C (-0.4°C) Average min: 9.0°C (+0.3°C) Max high: 29.0°C (4th) Max low: 15.9°C (3rd) Min high: 11.5°C (6th) Min low: 4.3°C (12th) Precipitation: 64.6mm (134.9% of avg. precip) Precip days: 13 Precip days (>1mm): 7 Sun hours: 148.9hrs (66.5% of avg sun) Highest wind gust: 98km/h from the NNE (2nd/3rd) Short summary: Wetter, below average and way too cloudy. In fact, 40 hours less sun than the next cloudiest October in 2003 (based on 20 years of records). Fun fact: Almost became the first October on record to not have 20°C in the second half of the month (in the CBD). Literally just narrowly avoided that. PWS:

Umeå Airport: Warm both in highs but especially lows. Very cloudy, and record wet. Temperatures vs 1991-2020 (2010-2019)
Average high: +1.2 (+0.6) Mean: +2.0 (+1.8) Average low: +3.0 (+2.9) Precipitation vs 1961-1990: 217% Sunshine vs 2002-2019: 69% I knew October this year had been very rainy and cloudy, but I didn't realize it was the rainiest on record. Previous record was 147mm from 1967. These figures are very preliminary though. They come from the agricultural agency's station (the station has the same name as the station SMHI uses, so if it's not the exact same station, it's at least within a couple hundred meters of that station). I think it's the same station SMHI uses for precipitation, but the Lantmet agency uses 00:00 as the day break whereas SMHI uses 21:00, so depending on what time of the day the rain fell on the 1st and 31st of October, the precipitation sum that SMHI uses might be slightly different. Very little difference between the airport and uni station. Makes sense. The warming effect of the river should be the highest around October, and any sun will be too weak to create much of a UHI difference. And since this month was so cloudy anyway, the cold and clear nights, when the UHI effect is strongest, were few.

Slightly below average temperatures, incredibly wet and cloudy. It was the 10th wettest month on record (and 4th wettest October), and the cloudiest on record.

October 2020 Summary I'll now be adding my precip data as a comparison: Warmer and wetter than average; unusually stable for Oct, but there were a few major storm events—one of which saw an event total of 88.0 mm here, on the 24–25 (but only 29.6 mm @ Hunters Hill). Anomalies (BoM Obs) • Mean Maxima = 16.9° C (+0.6° C) • Mean Minima = 8.8° C (+1.6° C) • Precipitation = 145.0 mm (+60.7 mm)

Temps near normal but precip much above normal (2nd wettest Oct on record). Wettest month of the year to date despite least precip days. Much of the rainfall is because of Hurricane Delta (training storms ahead of Delta on the 8th and the actual hurricane on the 9th). A couple of periods with warmth and humidity, especially the right after Delta. Coolest max: 59F Warmest min: 71F T-storm days: 2 Max dewpoint: 74F Min dewpoint: 38F

October 2020 started off quite warm in the first half of the month and then it plummeted to November-like temperatures for much of the second half. It also felt quite gloomy, I'll have to wait and see until the sunshine data's out but I'd be willing to bet it was below average sunshine. We got a fairly heavy rain event on the 29th but Environment Canada only registered 1.8mm of precipitation, which I personally think is well below what we actually got, but whatever. Stats (missing data for one day): Average high: 7.4C (normal: 10.2C) Average low: -4.9C (normal: -2.3C) Mean temperature: 1.2C (normal: 4.0C) Warmest high: 24.0C (Oct 10th) Warmest low: 7.2 (Oct 5th) Coldest high: -4.3C (Oct 24th) Coldest low: -16.7C (Oct 23rd) Highs above 10C: 14 Highs below 0C: 10 Precipitation total: 3.5mm (normal: 18.8mm) Precipitation days: 6 (normal: 7.4)

Pretty decent month with a nice cold period late in the month. Lows were very mild though, for the most part.

Virtually nothing good to say about this October, just like a really mild November that's still dreary and shit. We were on pace for average sun after the first third of the month so the last 20 days probably had no more than 25 hours. Absolute high: 15.8C Average high: 11.7C (-0.4C) Average: 9.1C (+0.1C) Average low: 6.7C (+0.6C) Absolute low: 3.5C Precipitation: 143 mm (+44%) Sunshine: 54 hours (-41%)

October started very warm, had a variable mid month and then a record breaking late month cold snap. As was the case for the past few months, diurnals were much bigger than normal. Oymyakon Within a degree of being the warmest October on record, it did have two decent warm spells but it cools down so much at this time of year that you need to get your biggest anomalies in early to get a shot at the record. I'd be interested in knowing what the sunshine was for a month which only had 6 mm of precip but judging by the forecasts I've seen it's probably not that much. Absolute high: 7.6C Average temp: -10.4C (+4.5C) Absolute low: -32.4C Precipitation: 6 mm (-59%)

October was mild and rainy, exceptionally mild during the last 6 days. Not rainy by amount, but by frequency. 21 days saw some amount of precipitation, with 16 days above 1 mm. 7 Octobers during this normal period had a mean temp above 8C, and this was the first one since 2008!
