October 2020 started off quite warm in the first half of the month and then it plummeted to November-like temperatures for much of the second half. It also felt quite gloomy, I'll have to wait and see until the sunshine data's out but I'd be willing to bet it was below average sunshine. We got a fairly heavy rain event on the 29th but Environment Canada only registered 1.8mm of precipitation, which I personally think is well below what we actually got, but whatever. Stats (missing data for one day): Average high: 7.4C (normal: 10.2C) Average low: -4.9C (normal: -2.3C) Mean temperature: 1.2C (normal: 4.0C) Warmest high: 24.0C (Oct 10th) Warmest low: 7.2 (Oct 5th) Coldest high: -4.3C (Oct 24th) Coldest low: -16.7C (Oct 23rd) Highs above 10C: 14 Highs below 0C: 10 Precipitation total: 3.5mm (normal: 18.8mm) Precipitation days: 6 (normal: 7.4) Every month I say this, but damn does Saskatoon have a GREAT temperature profile. If it were only wetter, snowier, and closer to mountains...

Glad someone's enjoying it Edmonton might be a bit closer to your preferences? Winters are milder but it is wetter and snowier and much closer to the mountains.

October in Victoria was marginally warmer than average but featured a frost freeze on October 25 which I gather is about 2 or 3 weeks ahead of schedule. Precipitation was very near average but was concentrated on fewer days than average. Data from the airport site. Average maximum: 14.3 °C (+0.1) Average maximum: 6.9 °C (+1.2) Highest maximum: 21.5 °C (2nd) Lowest maximum: 6.4 °C (25th) Highest minimum: 11.7 °C (9th) Lowest minimum: -0.5 °C (25th) Rainfall: 94.7 mm (+6.6) Rain days ≥ 0.2 mm: 9 (-5) Source: climate.weather.gc.ca/climate_data/daily_data_e.html?StationID=51337

Curious where you get the sunshine data from. It's my understanding that Environment Canada stopped collecting it in 2015. Are you able to get it from the Saskatchewan Research Council? I'm not aware of any current bright sunshine data for British Columbia.

I would rate it a 0.5 for the (comparative) cool at the end. If the 71 turned into an 81 I would rate it a none.

I know Environment Canada doesn't release their data publicly but I didn't realize they had straight up stopped collecting it, that's pretty ridiculous considering it's a major part of climate data.

October 2020 Summary The month actually started off very cold, basically no above average days until the 10-11th (depends on station) before we headed into a fairly variable month, with most days being above average. After the first few days being cloudy and wet, Perth experienced a long stretch of sunny and dry weather, from the 8th to the end of the month Perth recorded 0 days of rain and Jandakot 1 day (1mm of drizzle). Also Jandakot did miss one day of data because the station died for like 10 hours on that day, but it was a pretty average day and wouldn't have affected it much lol. Jandakot Airport: Highest Max: 35.4C (30th) Mean Max: 24.8C (+1.9C) Lowest Max: 16.1C (2nd) Monthly Anomaly: +1.9C Highest Min: 17.0C (30th) Mean Min: 11.7C (+1.9C) Lowest Min: 4.6C (3rd) Rain: 18.6mm (40.9% of average 45.4mm) Rain Days: 4 days (-5 days) Sun: 323.0 hours Sun hours/day: 10.4 hrs/day (+0.8hrs/day) Perth Metro: Highest Max: 36.6C (30th) Mean Max: 25.3C (+1.9C) Lowest Max: 16.7C (2nd) Monthly Anomaly: +1.55C Highest Min: 17.6C (31st) Mean Min: 12.8C (+1.2C) Lowest Min: 6.6C (3rd) Rain: 12.6mm (33.4% of average 37.7mm) Rain Days: 3 (-6.2 days) Sun: 323.0 hours Sun hours/day: 10.4 hrs/day (+0.8hrs/day) Perth Maximum and Minimum graphs

Any particular reason why you're using the airport located in North Saanich instead of Victoria University? I'm trying to create a fair comparison with other Canadian cities from which current conditions and historical data are based on the airport site for almost every Canadian city. The exception to the airport site policy is Edmonton where, for some bizarre reason, Environment Canada chooses to report from the automated and misleading "Blatchford" site. This is why on the map of Canada the current sky conditions for Edmonton are never reported, just the temperature. Environment Canada used to report from the airport site in Edmonton. Then the temperature dropped to -46°C in December 2009 and Edmonton was noted to be the coldest place in the Northern Hemisphere for a brief few hours. Shortly after this Environment Canada quietly switched to reporting Edmonton temperatures from the faulty Blatchford site. This site used to be an airport but in reality is currently a giant construction site: It's no surprise then that temperatures reported from this site are anomalously high. I'm generally not a conspiracy theorist but I strongly suspect this deliberate policy shift was motivated by non-scientific reasons. Sorry for the tangent; I get triggered by this kind of thing.

No, it's not an unreasonable thing to suggest. There are always reasons for such things to be done. I always wondered why the "official Edmonton" station never showed sky conditions. Thought that was quite odd. If I remember correctly, December 2009 had a nice shot of cold air into Washington and Oregon, with temps down to -14C in some places. Must've been the same airmass.

I remember that one too. Was a backdoor arctic blast so didn't get nearly as cold here in southwest BC but temps more or less remained below freezing for nearly a week. Similar to December 2013. Edit: looks like highs hovered around 1/2c and lows around -5/-6c at YVR during the December 2009 cold snap.

October in Malta was a little below average, with below average rainfall & average sunshine ..... Is the medicane responsible for the September rain? Yes, pretty much the entire months rainfall fell between the 13th to 16th with windy conditions & thunderstorms, before it intensified & headed towards Greece.
