Winter Haven 20-day forecast

Synopsis: Forecast will start off cold (for the time of year) and quite windy, with nightly frost and quite chilly daytime temperatures for the time of year. The overnight lows will come close to record lows, but not quite eclipse them. Then, at the beginning of next week, “Indian Summer” like conditions will occur, as is typical after the first freezing temperatures of the year. The warm temperatures will be August-like with moderate humidity, and daytime heating combined with very warm/hot weather and moderate/high humidity could help spark some thunderstorms. Late next week and early week after, some tropical storm remnants are predicted to come through the area, dropping heavy rains and producing very windy conditions for a few days. Then the backside of the storm system will come through delivering autumn-like conditions, with nice and cool days and frosty nights. A reinforcing cold front will come through afterwards bringing the first true cold weather of the season, and even the first snowflakes/flurries. Accumulations are not likely in the city, but will be possible in the western and northern, more elevated suburbs.

Cold front coming through in the evening hours, clearing out skies and dropping temps quickly, leading to frosty conditions overnight. Friday (9/13): Very cold morning, warming up fast through the mid-late morning hours leading up to a much warmer afternoon than previous days, with a WSW wind at 25-35 mph taking place aiding in the warm-up. Conditions will continue to stay warm through the evening and overnight hours as a warm front pushes into the area. Strong thunderstorms expected to develop overnight as the warm air collides with a cold front. Temps steady overnight. High: 78 Low: 71

Saturday (9/14): Severe thunderstorms in the morning ahead of a strong cold front, bringing heavy rain, high winds, very frequent lightning, hail, and a possibility of tornadoes along with it. Several rounds of severe thunderstorms are expected before noon until the cold front comes through the city and causes plunging temperatures. Winds will be WSW at 35-50 mph before the cold front and NNW at 35-50 mph after cold front. Some residual moisture will stay behind the front, causing the season’s first snow flakes for the city. No accumulation is expected though outlying areas to the north and west at higher elevation could get a coating. Quite cold overnight. High: 77 Low: 20

Sunday (9/15): Much, much colder with a strong NNW wind at 30-45 mph, mostly cloudy conditions and possible snow flurries. No snow accumulated is expected, although N/W suburbs might get an additional coating. Very unseasonably cold, record temps expected overnight. High: 36 Low: 12
