Was looking at west coast South Island climates and found this fuckery. I give this a C+: comfy, somewhat variable summers but too mild winters. Good place to buy an outdoor outlet and plug in your toaster though.

E+. Way too rainy, not even room temperature summers, horrible winters, totally idiotic record highs.
Very bad.

An automatic F for being very rainy, and having never seen 86Β°F highs on record.

I hear the London transplants there find summers to be much warmer and of longer duration than back home. Rain, they say, is transient and doesn't impact daily activities quite like it does in England. I've heard "the difference is that here the rain gets over and done with".

Rain, they say, is transient and doesn't impact daily activities quite like it does in England. I've heard "the difference is that here the rain gets over and done with". The inclusion of the word much, indicates that you are poor at absorbing information from the written word - a tendency to hear what you want to hear, rather than what is said. But yes, they do typically say summer is longer and more summery Don't know if they say it about the rain in Hokitika, but they certainly say it about Motueka - makes sense as Motueka rains less than anywhere in the UK, and is sunnier as well... I can understand why they say it. C for Hokitika for me - not a fan of west coast climates Motueka is much rainier than southern england but you know that...

C, could be warmer (less record lows below freezing would increase the grade quite a bit) but overall pretty good.

A-
A awesome climate in which the only minus seems to be that when it rains in the summer there's little temperature difference between summer days.

I'll give it a C. Pretty mild year round and can grow an interesting array of Subtropical plants but nothing to write home about.
