Do you prefer Alexandria LA's 3rd driest year on record (2011) or the 4th wettest year on record (2020)? Average max temp was about 2F warmer in 2011 though min temp was about 2F cooler. August 2011 was the hottest individual month on record. Average high was above 100F - meanwhile it hasn't even surpassed 100F since 2015! The heat of summer 2011 was broken when Tropical Storm Lee came thru in early September. 2020 didn't really have much in the way of extreme temps. The main story of 2020 was Hurricanes Laura and Delta. Both years had severe weather events (Alexandria wasn't affected much by the major tornado outbreaks of 2011). The winter months of 2011 were probably more interesting than 2020. There was a freezing rain event in February 2011. Kind of hard for me to decide which one was better. I guess I'd go with 2020 narrowly because I wasn't a fan of the dryness of 2011.

Iām skeptical of the 2011 data for august. Unbearable when you consider Louisiana humidity levels.

Both years are terrible - even by Alexandria standards. No snow either year.....2011 is more continental but the summer is too dry. I'll choose 2020.

Iām skeptical of the 2011 data for august. Unbearable when you consider Louisiana humidity levels. The data is correct - here's what the daily temps looked like that month. A pretty miserable month weather-wise with temps stuck around 100F and not much t-storm activity... Humidity levels did drop some towards the end of the month.

Instant heat induced illness sets in. That looks as bad as Hyderabad in summer.

^ Wow, what a consistent month that was! That August had an average dew point of 73Ā°F ā here's a yearly graph (disregard the ā20Ā°F DP reading though):

2011 for being drier and more continental.

Actually it comes difficult to choose... if 2011 had a remarkable decline in insect population due to the dryness and less lightning count, otherwise 2020 seems better.

2020. 2011 had a godawful summer across the entire southern tier of the country; it was terrible in Raleigh and OKC too.

2011 for me. Winters are better, and low temps are overall more comfortable even with that August.

Very easily, 2011. Less warm fronts in winter, and a much better summer.

Here's what Houston Intercontinental looked like in 2011. (was posted by Neptunepenguins on City-Data) Less than 25" of rain for the year! Probably was quite parched after a bone dry spring and blazing summer. There were wildfires in Texas in early Sept 2011 fanned by the winds of Tropical Storm Lee which went through Louisiana. www.city-data.com/forum/weather/2870846-rate-climate-houston-2011-a.html
