Mount Dandenong; I'd need quite a few antidepressant pills to make it through summer there, but it wouldn't drive me quite to the point of suicide like Gold Beach would.

Mount Dandenong has the better summers and is guaranteed snow at least 2-3 times a year.
It is also capable of getting the warmest nights in the metro area due to temperature inversions. On the 25th of Jan it recorded diurnals of 26.2C/34.3C.

Mount Dandenong
Much colder and snowier winters, and much hotter summers (especially prone to epic hot minima). Actually has four seasons, too.

Mt Dandenong for sure.....very picturesque too, good views back towards Melbourne. Some big stands of Australia's tallest trees ( found in Tasmania, the tallest ones that is ) the Mountain Ash Eucalyptus regnans. Reliable spot for a leisurely snow chase several times a winter, with the small towns of Olinda and Sassafras looking post card perfect with a dusting of snow. Some nice rhododendron gardens near the summit as well. The thickly forested slopes of the Dandenongs are prone to severe bushfires in the summer months. www.yarrawaterwaysgroup.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Major-Bushfires-in-Dandenong-Ranges.pdf

Mount Dandenong for less winter rain, more storms i would assume and warmer crummers.

Gold Beach because it's wetter, even if summers are a too dry and a tad too cool.

Mount Dandenong is far more interesting, Gold Beach is pukeworthy. So the choice is pretty clear to me.

Edit... I was looking at the wrong graph. Gold Beach for the better winters and drier summers.

Mount Dandenong for the slightly warmer summers with better potential for real heat, and having less precipitation overall.

Mount Dandenong's average temperatures fit with my ideal climate closer than the other one.
