January 2021 was absolutely fantastic, hands down the best January I've ever experienced here. The first three weeks of the month were consistently well above average, much closer to an average March than a mid-winter month, and there were no real cold snaps to speak of - we didn't hit -20C a single time until the 23rd, something I've NEVER seen before! We also ended up having more highs above freezing than below -10C, which is also very impressive. After that it got colder and so our average temperatures went way down because of that, but even then we only had about 4 or 5 days of a true cold snap, the rest of it was just average January cold and we still ended up several degrees above average. January in Malta was above average & also record breaking, with both the highest ever January maximum temperature (25.8C*) & the warmest ever January minimum temperature (19.4C*) being recorded at Luqa Airport. The previous January record high was 22.8C in 1939. Rainfall was below average & sunshine was around average. *The Malta Met Office only use the airport station for "official" Maltese climate averages/records, despite them having 8 weather stations around Malta & Gozo. The weather station at Msida recorded a high of 25.9C & also a minimum of 20.5C. Stats from my PWS in St. Paul's Bay Av. Mx. 17.4C (+1.3C) Av. What a Jackoffuary NOT to remember. It was so unmemorable that I totally forgot about compiling the stats and this thread. Unbelievably bad but I guess it could be worse. There was a nice period of sunny days mid-month at least to break up the monotony.  |

 (+0.7F / - 1.23" precip) A little warmer than normal due to lows. Nice cold snap around the second weekend of the month which brought a bit of sleet and snow. Turned warmer in the 2nd half of the month, with min temps the most noticeable difference. A few periods of rain (one event with fairly heavy rain) but somewhat drier than normal. No severe threats and just a few rumbles of thunder. Coolest max: 37F Warmest min: 60F Days with freezing lows: 9 Highest dewpoint: 70F Average dewpoint: 41F Lowest dewpoint: 24F  |

When I first saw your post I was gonna quote you and brag about how we had a warmer January than you, but then I noticed that our cold snap dragged our averages below yours  If the mild pattern from the first 22 days of the month had kept going to the end we'd be another 4C warmer than what we got, which would make us warmer than you and just a couple degrees shy of an average March here |

Trondheim-Værnes: Coldest January since 2010. Very consistent cold, only a very few days above avg. Also a calm and actually pretty sunny month for a January here.

January was an unusual combination of mild, stable, and snowy. Average was 5.7F/3.2C above normal, with lows a full 7.0F/3.9C above normal. Precipitation was near normal but snowfall was 50% higher than normal. Most mild winter months have a thaw or two, maybe a day in the 50s, but there was no thaw and only the 14th saw significant rain. There was some rain before it snowed on the 1st, maybe 0.01", so I said 2 rainy days.
There were no cold days, with a monthly low of +9F/-13C being the third mildest on record (2006, 1990). Since December only dropped to 10, this might set some kind of record for latest first cold temperature.
To me, it was a decent month. Could be colder but the snow to rain ratio was excellent, and there was snow around the entire month.
