They're both nearly at the same latitude but obviously located in different hemispheres. Auckland, New Zealand is a mild paradise for most of the year but features crummers, drizzle and plain old oceanic-boringness. On the other hand, Shizouka, Japan can't stop raining for most of the year leading to steambath summers (although they're relatively not that hot) but for four-season lovers they do have more seasonality, especially in terms of avg lows, even if their record low is rather limited. Also they're the sunniest major city in Japan, although that isn't saying much. Which one would you pick? I'd go for Shizouka because the winters are inoffensive, its hotter in summer with many thunderstorms I'd imagine and the rain doesn't make it overly cloudy. I mean they get nearly twice the amount of rain as Auckland but clock in more sun hours lol.

Auckland, the other place is disgustingly wet.

As disgustingly wet as the summers are, I'm going with Shizoukaβgive me heavy showers and/or thunderstorms over oceanic drizzle.

Auckland. Even though Shizuoka's temperatures are superior, it's way too wet for me.

Auckland is superior in every way, save for winter.

Auckland for better winters and less rainy days.

Auckland for me- too many rain days at Shizouka, although still quite like it as a climate. Haven't spent much time in Auckland, but not really sure that it's a drizzly climate - that's more typical for Oceanic climates like the UK or Netherlands etc. Shizouka gets a lower rainfall per rain day than Motueka does, but I wouldn't say that Shizouka is a drizzly climate just because of that - think about it folks! ... to assume all oceanic climates are drizzly, is conduct unbecoming of a weather buff. k

Auckland is just so...Aucklandish ! Which translated from the Kiwi means 'bland' and unexciting climatically. So have to give the Jap one a tick.

Shizuoka. Auckland's summers = That's not to say Shizuoka is that good either though.

Auckland is pretty boring, so Shizuoka wins it, easily.

Shizouka - give me those summers, heavy downpours and storms vs Auckland's gay cool crummers and stratocrapulus drizzle

Shizouka. It's so embarrassing how cool Auckland's summers are by comparison (Auckland has similar summer temps to central London at 52 N ). Shizouka has colder winter lows, but the winters are also drier and sunnier. Summer is a bit gloomy but not bad for the amount of rain they get (and not much worse than AKL). Plus most likely more storms, possibility of snow, etc. plus slightly sunnier overall.
