Time to put this debate to bed once and for all! We've had a trial to see what this place is like without the shoutbox, and it seemed unpopular enough that I didn't see any point in continuing it for the whole four days. One of the main arguments for trying it out was to see if it stimulated more activity in the chat threads, but it didn't: we had 246 posts here on Monday, which is actually a bit less than the 253 we averaged over the whole of the previous week. We'd probably get over 200 posts in the shoutbox on a normal day as well, so without it IMO the place felt slow, lifeless and just less fun a place to stick around. I get the argument that it's too fast-paced for some people to keep up with, but I've had a look at the HTML code in the Admin section and had a look at the ProBoards help forum and unfortunately there isn't a way to set it to save more than 20 posts at a time. I think the only way to get round the issue of people missing out on important stuff is for people to make more of an effort to post important stuff in the chat threads. I 100% think it's a good thing for this forum, but in the interests of fairness, you can vote either to keep it on all the time, five days on and two days off, or off all the time. Just so you know though, if you don't vote to keep it on I will be forced to delete the forum

Bump! We want as many votes as possible, the only reason we had that shoutbox-free experiment in the first place was because people didn't vote to say they wanted to keep it

On, just in the interests of avoiding a civil war.
