Now this is a big trip ! And not for the faint hearted as the route takes you through some of the remotest parts of Australia. thousands of kilometers of unsealed roads, and large distances between fuel stops. But, think of it this way, you're in Perth and finally the damp dreary winter weather has got the better of you, and the balmy tropical climes of far north Queensland are calling. Yeah, its a Med winter in the south west, so its raining every other day. And from Kalgoorlie onwards you will be unlikely to see any rain whatsoever until approaching Cairns. Camping out under the stars in the Outback, well its gunna be cold and frosty. The wild Bunyips should leave you alone at this time of the year and Drop Bears are unknown out west of Woop Woop, they typically inhabit the forested regions of the east coast.
I've travelled this route and enjoyed the solitude of the Outback, as well as the cameraderie of pulling up at a remote pub, having a few beers and swagging it out the back, having a big breakfast in the morning and back on the road.....
Always a pleasure to head away from the City and the winter rain......
Perth ( data Jandakot Airport )
Kalgoolie
The main street big enough to turn aroung a bullock team and a stage coach during the gold rush era.
Laverton
The 31st President of the USA, Herbert Hoover lived and worked here and the neaby town of Leonora at the turn of the 19th century.
Giles
The most remote full BOM weather station in Australia

And wrecked and abandoned cars every mile for 500 miles on the Central Desert Road..... and a time warp with wrecks dating back to the 1960's.
Uluru
We cross the border into the NT at Docker River.... there is a decent campground here
And good views of Kata Tjuta ( The Olgas ) from the road.
And of course 'The Rock' ( Uluru )
And as a side note, there was a snowfall here in 1997

Alice Springs
Jervois
A remote roadhouse and cattle station north east of Alice Springs
Boulia
Hughendon
Cairns
Creek near Cairns.... gotta love the Tropics....haha
