I thought I'd do something a little different and pit two general climate types against each other. Today we're facing off between the classic subarctic climate, and the subpolar oceanic climate. I'm particularly interested in seeing how the cold haters/heat lovers will vote on this one. Subarctic climates typically feature long and extremely cold winters and short mild summers that can occasionally experience serious heat. They tend to be on the drier side and usually have a summer precipitation peak. Some examples include: FairbanksWhitehorseRovaniemiKirunaMurmanskSubpolar oceanic climates are typically fairly wet, being variants of oceanic climates, with winters that are pretty close to the freezing mark and cool/chilly summers that have average highs struggling to reach the mid-teens Celsius. They also tend to be on the cloudy side, some of them extremely so. Some examples include: ReykjavikTΓ³rshavnPunta ArenasUnalaskaPuerto WilliamsSo what do you prefer? Personally, I think I'm gonna go with subarctic climates. Even though they're far too cold for me in the winter at least they tend to be drier and can have decent summers that would give a break from the cold. The perpetual wet chill of subpolar oceanic climates is not my thing at all.

Subarctic for the same reasons. Dry, snowy and very cold is preferable to rainy and cold and subarctic climates often have actually nice weather in summer.

Subarctic definitely. Typically much more interesting climates, get a wider variety of weather, etc. Subarctic is one of my favorite climate types.
Anything "oceanic" is a no go for me.

Subarctic for having warmer weather during the summer and being sunnier and just much more interesting !

If we're including Punta Arenas, then subpolar oceanic easily. Not even comparable to the likes of Fairbanks IMO.

Subpolar oceanic for sure. Subarctic winters are far too cold for me.

Subpolar Oceanic
Snowier, wetter, windierβ¦just overall much more exciting. Subarctic climates lack any real weather.

Subarctic for sure. Most subpolar oceanic climates are hellish.

Subpolar oceanic. Winters in Dfc climates are absolutely horrific.

I choose subarctic climates. Those are my favorite climates besides humid continental and tropical climates. I honestly despise subpolar oceanic climates. They're usually windy because they are always located near the ocean, cold year round, and have no chance of warmth during summer. You would likely have to wear pants year round. They are also usually very wet and cloudy, even during summer. At least subarctic climates usually have sunny, warm summers with lots of chances for heat waves, and are cold enough during winter for a lovely snow pack to form.

Subpolar Oceanic. I just want to make sure that all mosquito eggs don't hatch all year round.

Subarctic, because its the best climate classification outside of maybe cold continental. Subpolar oceanic is one of the worst non tropical/dry/polar climate classifications.

Subarctic, because you get Epic windchills like -65 F, like Mount Washington & Whiteface Mountain in the northeast.
