In the newly created Manipulate your climate thread, I did just that with Umeå. Here's the results: Now I pretty much created all months as perfect as they could get within plausibility. They could all theoretically happen, some more likely than others. For example, all temperatures have happened or have almost happened, and all sunshine values have happened, but perhaps not together. Summer half-year very sunny, winter half-year moderately gloomy (about 25% sunshine) or else it wouldn't be mild. Now, would you prefer this climate or anywhere on the 50th parallel? Portsmouth and Lytton are the most popular climates at that latitude, although you're free to pick either. I think personally I'd pick god-Umeå over Portsmouth (my favorite at 50'N) mainly because of the high sunshine values, although the stronger sun and warmer winters are enticing.

I can't even begin to describe how awesome a summer like that would be with all that daylight and sunlight and comfortable sun angle at that! I'd be outside 24/7 from May 15 to Sep 15 Winters would suck of course, but it looks like a normal Nyköping one albeit a bit darker so I'll take that. Umeå.

Not sure what is supposed to be happening, but those climates are about as perfect as a turd which half stuck in my ass, leaving me with a 2 toilet roll wiping marathon.
I picked somewhere else, that somewhere else being Phoenix Arizona.

Would you rather live in this Umeå, or somewhere at 50'N (or S)? I'm guessing you'd pick Lytton.

Have those sun totals really all happened Baba, you had a June with 470 hours?
Your one is impressive, but whatever you do with your winters they're still going to be long, dark and cold, plus with that much summer sun a lot of it would get wasted anyway, so I'll choose Lytton.

We had 469h in 1970. I think I added about 10h onto some of the summer months as records can be broken. In '94 however, Visby got 458h in July. That's absolutely bonkers at 57'N. That's still only about 85% possible

Turku had 442 hours in July 1994.
I'll still go with Kiev for the 50 parallel battle.

442 hours is just crazy, did Turku also manage 27C highs like Stockholm that month?

Are they the warmest winters you can get, or did you just want to retain a bit of cold?

Still Lyton. IMO Portsmouth is the still the best 50N climate outside of British Colombia, even if you moved godlike Umea down there.
Although Godlike Umea is still pretty good, it's held back by weak temperatures throughout most of the year, especially in the shoulder seasons. I'll just assume it carries over the same sunshine percentages rather than overall hours. Has 470 hours of sunshine in a month even occured on a 50N climate with shorter summer day lengths.
Edit: I mistook the means for the highs. Still I'm struggling with that October-April period. It's too cold for too long.

I don't think there's anywhere at 50N that's ever going to get that much % sun, but I don't know. Eastbourne's got the British record and is just above 50N but it's absolutely nowhere near that much, 383.9 hours in July 1911. Sacramento averages 440 hours in July at 38N though, that's 98% of possible sunshine if accurate! www.currentresults.com/Weather-Extremes/sunniest-places-countries-world.php

Somewhere else. I want to feel everything, so I pick Winnipeg, Manitoba: For anyone not using Celsius: The humidex was 117°F and the wind chill was -71°F. You can't get a more variable climate than this.
