So, we've done the West African wet spots, so now we'll jump on board a trans Saharan camel caravan. Some of the remotest and most inhospitable climates on the planet. Also some of the dryest.... hard country that produces hard people... The Sahara Tamanrasset, Algeria... the nearby Hoggar Mountains one of the last Toureg strongholds 'pacified' by the Colonial French. Further reading....https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1747802.Sands_of_Death Faya, Chad. Dallol, Ethiopia....often described as the hottest place on the planet....shame the records are not of a longer duration. Aswan, Egypt. Wadi Halfa, Sudan. In Salah, Algeria, one of the hottest summer towns in the world by averages. Timbuctu, Mali. Ghadames, Libya. Zouerat, Mauritania. Murzaq, Libya. | Agadez, Niger.

βRecord high 131Fβ

An addendum to Ghadames, Libya.... "Ghadames modern heat record is 48.4Β°C (119.1Β°F) in July 1977. The hottest temperature measured in Libya during the modern era is 50.2Β°C (122.4Β°F) at Zuara in June 1995. In Algeria there is an ancient report of a 53Β°C (127.4Β°F) temperature occurring on August 27, 1884 at Ouargla".

Tamanrasset, which going by temps alone isn't bad at all - though in all of these places, the precip totals leave a lot to be desired.

Tamanrasset also whatever fucking moron came up with "its blazing hot days and then freezing cold nights in the sahara" needs to be shot This shit is relayed by absolutely everyone. Perhaps the worst misconception out there along with the 100Β°F/90% one. Fuck them.

Tamanrasset for me. I'd love to see the fuckwits who spread the "freezing cold nights" bullshit to be punched a few times in the face as well.

Tamanrasset also whatever fucking moron came up with "its blazing hot days and then freezing cold nights in the sahara" needs to be shot Ah yes, the freezing cold 23 C nights it gets in the summer. When will this dumb shit just fucking die? Anyways, I choose Ghadame (pronounced "Goddamn") for having the coolest winters.

Tamanrassett looks best to me. Best winters and summers aren't a scorching furnace.

Timbuktu. If I am going to deal with scorching summers, I might as well have the nicest winters possible. Tropical temperatures with no recorded freezes.

Tamanrasset seems like most climates in the CA central Valley. Good climate to grow the ingredients necessary for making Harissa sauce .
