Back in 2004, good mates and motorcycle enthusiasts Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman filmed an epic trip of a lifetime, riding bikes from London to New York via Europe, Central Asia, Mongolia, Siberian Russia, Alaska, Canada and the USA. Hence the title of the thread, 'Long Way Round', taken from the name of their film/doco of the journey. Given the locations and latitudes of the trip, I think the summer months of travel was a wise decision....... And, if you've not watched the series, I highly recommend it, great viewing ! London Prague Volgograd Almaty Ulaabaatar Yakutsk Madagan Anchorage Whitehorse Calgary Chicago New York

I saw that show at the time. Think they did another heading down Africa or something?

London for having the mildest winters.

NYC summers are far outweigh Londonβs warmer winters.

Might have to actually go with NYC. The winters are too cold for my tastes, but the summers make up for it.

NYC by an absolute mile. Don't let the mildness fool you in the UK. It's so cloudy and damp in winter, that you don't feel any warmth whatsoever. NYC although colder, is far sunnier in winter which more than makes up for it. Obviously there is no comparison the rest of the year, NYC is far warmer and sunnier.
